  • Salt Lake City Public Lands is responsible for planning, creating, maintaining, and activating the parks, natural lands, trails, and open spaces that contribute to the health, vibrancy, and resilience of Salt Lake City's communities.
Within Public Lands, the Planning & Design Division leads longrange planning, conceptual and technical design, community engagement, and implementation guidance for public spaces across the city. The division is composed of landscape architects and planners who collaborate to create highquality, equitable, and sustainable places for residents and visitors. This internship offers students the opportunity to gain handson professional experience in publicsector planning and design. The position supports a variety of research, data, documentation, and projectrelated tasks that contribute both to active projects and to the division's internal standards and processes. Job Summary This internship is academically oriented and designed to support students in pursuing their professional education and training. To qualify, students must be enrolled in an accredited school program related to the type of work performed. Intern positions conclude at the end of the internship period. Interns may work with confidential information and are expected to maintain confidentiality as directed by their City supervisor. Intern assists in developing and documenting internal standard operating procedures and design standards used by the Planning & Design Division as well as supports planning and design projects by preparing supplemental materials, summaries, graphics, or other assigned deliverables.
  • Public Lands Landscape Architect Internship (20-40 hours a week, May to September, 2026 (14 weeks).

TYPICAL DUTIES
+ Performs research activities by utilizing computer software to obtain and manipulate data. + Writes or drafts technical reports, articles or related material based on research, investigation or analysis. + Other tasks as assigned. + Complies with city and department policies and procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
+ Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university, though summer internships may not require concurrent enrollment if student is in good standing with the educational institution. + Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. + Must have good organizational and analytical skills. + Must have good computer skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS
+ Moderate physical effort, comfortable working conditions, and handling of light weights. Intermittent sitting, standing, and walking may be required.
