Vermont History Day Advisor (5th grade-12th grade)

PrincipalJob Summary:
We are seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented person to serve as our History Day Advisor for grades 5 and beyond, for the 2026-2027 school year.

This role guides younger students through introductory historical research. You will prepare them for the Vermont History Day Competition, and National History Day (NHD) competition framework. The ideal candidate fosters curiosity, teaches critical thinking, and simplifies complex research skills for upper elementary students. Meetings of this group are held after school, with a schedule that is flexible and is created with participants input. There must be a minimum of 5 students enrolled in the program which begins at the onset of the 2026-2027 academic year.
Key ResponsibilitiesGuide Student Projects:
Help students choose topics matching the annual NHD theme.
Teach Research Basics:
Introduce primary and secondary sources in age-appropriate ways.
Manage Project Timelines:
Set milestones for project pieces, drafts, and visual displays.
Format Competition Entries:
Assist students with exhibits, performances, documentaries, websites, or papers.
Coordinate Contest Logistics:
Manage registration and paperwork for local and regional events.

Communicate with
Families:
Keep parents informed about project deadlines and event schedules.
QualificationsEducation:
Associates Degree PreferredExperience:
Minimum of 2 years working with, or mentoring middle grades
Skills:
Strong organizational habits and excellent communication with young learners.
Knowledge:
Familiarity with National History Day rules is preferred but not required.
