Interim Lead Patient Financial Counselor Summary:
The Patient Financial Counselor helps patients understand and manage healthcare costs by identifying payment options, assisting with financial programs, and ensuring access to care.
Key Responsibilities:
Screen and assist patients for Medicaid and financial assistance eligibility Process sliding fee applications and prior authorizations Explain billing, charges, and payment policies to patients Set up payment plans and apply appropriate discounts Maintain accurate account documentation and daily activity logs Complete Good Faith Estimates and required financial documents Coordinate with registration and billing teams Provide excellent customer service for billing-related inquiries Ensure patient confidentiality and compliance with policies Assist with patient registration and other duties as needed
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required 2-3 years of healthcare, billing, or accounting experience preferred Knowledge of insurance, billing, and basic accounting principles Strong communication, organization, and customer service skills Basic computer proficiency (data entry, spreadsheets, email) Ability to handle confidential information and adapt to change Community Health Systems, Inc. is an equal opportunity employer
