Job Description

Overview The Account Manager performs advanced, analytical, and non-manual work supporting Universal Steel America's business operations and global customer base. This position combines high-level sales administration, pricing authority, customer consultation and support, lead generation, and strategic planning and decision-making. The role exercises independent judgment in managing international relationships, approving pricing, resolving escalated issues, and influencing operational decisions. The position has a significant América Latina business development focus and is responsible for developing, maintaining, and expanding relationships with customers, distributors, and business partners in international markets. The position requires frequent domestic and international travel, which may be up to 50% of the employees' working time, depending on business needs. Responsibilities Pricing, Quotation & Contract Management Negotiate pricing, margins, freight terms, discounts, and special pricing based on market conditions, inventory costs, and customer needs. Review and negotiate customer contracts, long-term supply agreements, and credit considerations. Exercise independent judgment to protect company profitability while maintaining customer relationships. Business Development & Market Expansion Identify, qualify, and develop domestic and international sales opportunities through research, networking, industry platforms, and outbound sales efforts. Manage the full sales cycle from prospecting through closing and develop long-term customer and distributor relationships. Research global steel markets, competitors, pricing trends, and customer demand to identify growth opportunities. Customer & Distributor Management Build and maintain strong relationships with international and domestic customers, distributors, agents, and strategic partners. Provide solutions tailored to customer requirements, market conditions, and technical specifications. Represent Universal Steel America at customer meetings, business events, trade shows, and other industry functions. Independent Decision-Making & Problem Resolution Independently resolve escalated issues involving pricing, delivery, quality, logistics, and contractual matters. Make sound decisions regarding orders, logistics, pricing, and customer solutions while considering financial, operational, and contractual risks. Cross-Department Collaboration Coordinate with sales, marketing, logistics, operations, and technical teams to support customers and resolve supply-chain or fulfillment challenges. Support territory-specific marketing initiatives and improve sales processes, customer onboarding, and internal SOPs. Sales Analysis, Forecasting & Reporting Monitor sales activity, pipeline development, revenue, margins, and market trends. Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, inventory planning, and sales-growth strategies. Analyze customer demand and inventory utilization to support stocking and purchasing decisions. Technical & International Expertise Maintain knowledge of steel grades, specifications, applications, and industry requirements. Provide technical and commercial guidance to customers and distributors. Demonstrate strong cross-cultural communication and professionalism when working with international customers and business partners. Travel Travel domestically and internationally, potentially up to 50% of the time , for customer visits, business-development meetings, trade shows, distributor meetings, facility/site visits, and industry events. Maintain flexibility for international business schedules, different time zones, and occasional after-hours customer activities. Conduct all travel and customer activities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. Qualifications 5+ years of experience in inside sales, international sales, industrial distribution, or a related field with an established customer portfolio. Steel sales experience is a plus. Strong analytical skills with the ability to make independent business decisions. Experience with pricing, negotiations, contracts, and customer account management preferred. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to work effectively across cultures. Bilingual Spanish/English proficiency is required. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand both languages at a professional business level, including technical, commercial, contractual, and operational communication. Proficiency with CRM systems, ERP software, and data-analysis tools. Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 50% of the time , including extended or overnight travel as business needs require.
