Job Description

Robert Half is seeking a detail-oriented Permit Technician to support the review, issuance, and processing of permits within the Engineering/Public Works Department. This Permit Technician role serves as a key point of contact for contractors, developers, utility companies, property owners, and the public, ensuring permit applications are complete and compliant with department requirements.

The ideal Permit Technician candidate will have a construction, drafting, engineering support, or permit processing background and possess the ability to read and interpret construction plans, understand property ownership and easement information, and make sound decisions regarding permit requirements and routing.

Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesReview permit applications for completeness and compliance with department requirements.

Issue permits and coordinate permit processing activities from intake through approval.

Read and interpret construction plans, engineering drawings, site plans, and supporting documentation.

Review plan sets consisting of approximately 24-36 sheets and identify missing or incomplete information.

Research property ownership, easements, rights-of-way, and parcel information using public records and GIS resources.

Provide permit-related information and assistance to contractors, developers, utility companies, consultants, and the general public.

Coordinate with engineering, planning, building, and public works staff regarding permit reviews and approvals.

Maintain accurate permit records, files, and project documentation.

Track permit status and communicate updates to applicants and stakeholders.

Utilize electronic permitting systems and databases to process and manage permit applications.

Prepare correspondence, reports, and permit-related documentation.

Assist with field verification and site visits as needed.
