The City of Keene is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Housing Inspector to help ensure safe, healthy, and well-maintained housing conditions for all residents. In this role, you'll work directly with property owners, tenants, businesses, and community members to promote compliance with housing safety, property maintenance, and zoning regulations. You'll combine technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and customer service to help maintain the quality of life throughout our community. What You'll Do Conduct inspections of residential properties, apartment buildings, leased housing, and signage to ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations. Investigate complaints and concerns related to housing conditions, property maintenance, and zoning issues. Meet with property owners, occupants, neighbors, and business representatives to discuss concerns and identify solutions. Evaluate properties for compliance with housing safety, property maintenance, and zoning requirements. Prepare detailed inspection reports documenting findings and recommending corrective actions. Issue notices of violation and explain required corrective measures to property owners and responsible parties. Work collaboratively with property owners and occupants to achieve voluntary compliance whenever possible. Issue enforcement orders requiring the correction, removal, alteration, or discontinuance of violations. Conduct follow-up inspections to verify compliance and ensure corrective actions have been completed. Coordinate with building, health, code enforcement, and other City departments to support safe housing initiatives. Initiate legal action when necessary for ongoing violations and serve as the City's primary witness during court proceedings. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of experience in property management, building inspection, or a related field. Candidates must demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to educate others and build positive relationships with a variety of stakeholders. A valid driver's license is required. International Code Certification (ICC) Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector certification is required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire. Pay and Benefits This full-time position offers a competitive pay range of $28.13- $35.06 per hour and will also receive an attractive benefits package which includes low deductible/low-cost health insurance, low-cost dental insurance, State of NH Group I retirement, and other benefits such as life insurance, disability, and paid time off.
