The South Dakota Department of Transportation, Office or Right-of-Way, is looking for a motivated individual with a positive attitude, and a desire to learn. The ideal candidate will be team and service orientated to work with staff, supporting DOT offices, federal agencies, county offices, and the public in assisting in the acquiring of property and easements for upcoming construction projects. Duties include, but are not limited to, preparing acquisition files which includes: review of construction plans and title records, preparing acquisition documents, and putting together the physical acquisition files; processing acquisition files which includes preparing vouchers, mailing documents to county register of deeds office for recording, communicating with county offices, and sending out land owner letters; maintaining department records regarding work assignments which includes necessary accounting records on improvements, relocations, and negotiated payments; preparing applications for use of public land and Indian Trust lands; and compiling data for condemnation proceedings. A valid driver's license is required. Most of the work is in a typical office environment with occasional field visits to project sites. Limited overnight travel may be required. What the

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
A background in real estate title related to legal descriptions of real property and chain of title. A background in title, appraisal, negotiation, or property management is desired (preferred but not required).
Knowledge of:
working knowledge of maintaining, updating, and archiving records and data and various database and spreadsheet formats; legal descriptions of real property (preferred but not required); voucher and warrant processing (preferred but not required); county Register of Deeds to record acquisition or transfer of various types of property and procedures for plats and property transfers (preferred but not required).
Skill to:
proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Ability to:
work cooperatively with others and promote a friendly work climate in order to achieve shared goals; treat customers courteously and is responsive to their needs; listen attentively to others and clearly conveys information and ideas; attend to all details of assignments and complete work properly, accurately, and thoroughly; set priorities, schedule activities, acquire resources, and monitor progress to ensure the successful completion of projects and assignments; understand and comprehend written materials in order to analyze data and follow directions.
