POSITION SUMMARY
The Camp Caretaker position is responsible for the daily care, maintenance, safety, security, and operational readiness of council camp property. This position serves as the onsite caretaker and primary maintenance resource for Camp Mitre Peak, ensuring the property, facilities, grounds, utilities, and equipment are maintained in a safe, clean, functional, and welcoming condition. Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer or designee, the Camp Caretaker performs and coordinates routine and preventative maintenance, repairs, groundskeeping, custodial services, property preparation, and operational support. The position operates a variety of equipment, including trucks, tractors, mowers, hand tools, power tools, and other property-maintenance equipment. The Camp Caretaker is responsible for greeting, welcoming, and assisting staff, volunteers, members, visitors, and other guests; managing check-in and check-out procedures; answering questions; directing individuals to the appropriate areas; and ensuring a professional, friendly, and welcoming experience. Additionally, while maintaining responsibility for prioritizing and completing maintenance, facility, and property operations as directed by the Chief Executive Officer or designee. The position works with general supervision and is expected to exercise initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently. Because this is an onsite position, the Camp Caretaker is expected to respond to property-related emergencies and provide on-call assistance as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Property Maintenance and Operations Perform day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of camp buildings, grounds, facilities, roads, trails, equipment, and other property assets. Prioritize daily maintenance and repair needs to maximize efficiency, safety, and effective use of time and resources. Develop and maintain, in coordination with the Chief Executive Officer or designee, preventative maintenance schedules for buildings, grounds, vehicles, equipment, utilities, and other camp assets. Complete, track, and document preventative maintenance activities and repairs. Inspect camp facilities and grounds regularly and identify maintenance, safety, repair, and replacement needs. Perform general repairs and maintenance related to electrical, plumbing, sewer, heating, appliances, pool, fixtures, structures, and other facility systems within the scope of the position's training and qualifications. Perform or coordinate building repairs, replacement of structures and fixtures, trail maintenance, road maintenance, grounds maintenance, and other property repairs. Maintain camp facilities and grounds in a clean, safe, attractive, and program-ready condition. Operate and maintain trucks, tractors, mowers, power tools, hand tools, and other equipment safely and appropriately. Maintain adequate supplies, tools, equipment, and materials necessary for routine property maintenance and communicate purchasing needs to the Chief Executive Officer or designee. Water and Utility Systems Operate and maintain the camp water treatment system in accordance with applicable requirements. Monitor water systems and other utility systems and promptly address or report issues. Maintain required records and documentation related to water treatment and other regulated systems. Ensure applicable state, county, and local compliance requirements are followed. Contractors and Vendors Identify maintenance and repair needs that require outside contractors or specialized services and report to the Chief Executive Officer or designee. Provide recommendations regarding contractors and vendors as requested. Coordinate and monitor the work of independent contractors performing maintenance, repairs, construction, or other services at camp. Ensure contractors follow camp safety requirements, property rules, and applicable regulations while working onsite. Inspect completed work and communicate concerns or deficiencies to the Chief Executive Officer or designee. Compliance, Safety, and Security Work with the Chief Executive Officer or designee to ensure camp operations comply with applicable local and state regulations, health and building codes, Girl Scouts of the USA safety guidelines, and American Camp Association standards, as applicable. Establish and maintain professional working relationships with state and county officials and regulatory agencies involved with camp operations. Maintain property security, including monitoring buildings, gates, utilities, and other property systems as appropriate. Maintain and monitor emergency systems and procedures to support safe use of the property. Report safety hazards, property damage, security concerns, and maintenance issues promptly. Assist with emergency response and provide on-call assistance for property-related emergencies. Maintain current First Aid and CPR/AED certification. Camp Users and Community Relations Assist staff, volunteers, Girl Scouts, renters, and other authorized property users with basic property-related needs and questions. Prepare facilities and grounds for programs, events, rentals, and other approved activities. Communicate property rules, safety requirements, and operational information to users as appropriate. Maintain positive and professional relationships with volunteers, neighbors, community organizations, suppliers, contractors, regulatory agencies, and other partners. Represent the council in a professional and courteous manner when interacting with camp users, community members, vendors, and government officials. Administrative and Other Responsibilities Maintain accurate maintenance, inspection, repair, utility, and compliance records as required. Communicate maintenance priorities, property concerns, supply needs, and significant issues to the Chief Executive Officer or designee in a timely manner. Assist with developing long-term maintenance and replacement priorities for camp property. Maintain confidentiality of council information and follow all applicable council policies and procedures. Follow all applicable Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest policies, safety procedures, and standards. Reside in council-provided camp housing as a condition of the position. Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer or designee.
