Job Description
Gryphon Place seeks a MiCAL Crisis Specialist to provide compassionate, 24/7 crisis intervention through phone, text, and chat for individuals across Michigan. In this role, you will de-escalate crises, conduct suicide and risk assessments, collaboratively develop safety plans, and connect people to community and mental health resources. You will document all contacts accurately, follow clear protocols, and consult with supervisors on high-risk situations. Supported by extensive training, supervision, and a trauma-informed, team-oriented culture, you will help ensure every contact is met with empathy, respect, and hope. Responsibilities Respond to inbound crisis calls, texts, and chats with empathy and professionalism Conduct risk assessments for suicide and harm, following established protocols De-escalate callers in emotional distress using crisis intervention techniques Create collaborative safety plans and connect individuals to appropriate resources Document all contacts accurately and timely in electronic systems Consult with supervisors on high-risk situations and follow escalation procedures Collaborate with community partners and internal teams to coordinate care Participate in ongoing training, supervision, and quality improvement activities Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical and legal guidelines Support a trauma-informed, inclusive, and client-centered service environment Required Skills Crisis intervention Suicide risk assessment De-escalation techniques Active listening Safety planning Case documentation and note-taking Use of contact center/CRM software Knowledge of community and social service resources Confidentiality and HIPAA awareness Boundary-setting and self-care strategies
