Brief Role Description As MOIA's dedicated insurance and risk lead in the US, you will establish the insurance foundation for MOIA's autonomous mobility tests, pilot deployments, and commercial ride-service operations at scale. This role will design, negotiate, and operationalize the U.S. insurance portfolio across commercial lines, ensuring regulatory compliance and alignment with MOIA Germany and VWGOA's broader insurance frameworks. Partnering closely with Legal, Safety, Engineering, Operations and Finance in the US and Germany, you'll translate emerging AV risks into pragmatic coverage, broker / carrier strategies and clear processes—from placement to claims. Possible Tasks within this Role Insurance Strategy & Program Architecture (≈ 35%) Define the US insurance strategy across autonomous mobility use‑cases (AV pilots, MaaS / TaaS, fleet ops), integrating with global programs and MOIA Germany Develop coverage structures addressing exposures across vehicle platforms, ADS technology, operations, data / cyber risks, and product liability) Build a structured roadmap (short• mid• long-term) aligned with market capacity, retention philosophy, scaling needs, and potential alternative risk structures (e.g. captives) 2) Placement, Broker & Carrier Management (≈ 25%) Lead RFPs and annual placements; negotiate terms, retentions, endorsements and service‑level commitments with brokers / carriers across, e.g.: Commercial Auto / Livery, Product Liability, Cyber, General Liability, Workers' Compensation, Umbrella / Excess. Negotiate terms, conditions, retentions, endorsements, and service agreements Ensure timing, compliance, and accuracy of binders, certificates, and filings across states Maintain active engagement with the AV insurance marketplace, reflecting best practices of industry leaders in emerging-risk environments 3) Regulatory, Compliance & Industry Interface (≈ 15%) Monitor US state‑level requirements and trends impacting AV / commercial passenger transport (e.g., state insurance minima for for‑hire / livery, evolving AV testing / operations frameworks, NAIC / NHTSA guidance) and reflect them in our program design and documentation Serve as MOIA's external interface with regulators, AV working groups, and insurance industry coalitions Align with legal/policy partners to ensure MOIA's exposure is optimized in line with corporate risk appetite, mirroring responsibilities found in comparable industry roles 4) Claims, Incident Response & Data (≈ 15%) Develop and manage first‑notice, triage, and data handover processes with TPAs and internal teams Oversee claim reserves, trend analysis, and recoveries / subrogation Partner with Safety / Engineering to evaluate incidents and integrate findings into risk-mitigation strategies 5) Processes, Governance & Enablement (≈ 10%) Set up underwriting data packs, exposure registers, contract wording repositories, COI workflows, incident playbooks and training Build simple dashboards and KPIs for continuous improvement Qualification requirements
Years of Relevant Experience:
5-7 years in commercial/industrial insurance or risk management; ideally with mobility/automotive, technology, or platform & future oriented-businesses.
Education:
Required Desired Bachelor's degree in Risk Management & Insurance, Business, Finance, Economics, Law or related field Advanced degree and/or certifications (e.g., CPCU, ARM, JD, MBA) Experience with international insurance programs (US & EU) preferred Familiarity with risk quantification methodologies used in advanced mobility/AV applications, consistent with industry leaders

Strong expertise designing and placing U.S. commercial insurance programs (Commercial Auto / Livery, General Liability, Product liability, Cyber, Workers' Compensation, Excess/Umbrella) Analytical depth in risk assessment, loss forecasting, benchmarking, and scenario modeling, reflecting AV industry expectations for evaluating product liability, auto, cyber, and emerging technology risks.; process and documentation discipline Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills across brokers, carriers, TPAs, and internal technical teams Clear, concise, structured communicator able to translate technical risks into actionable insurance strategies Highly organized, disciplined, and able to manage multiple projects in fast-developing environments Strong collaboration across diverse, international teams Specialized Skills Required Desired Hands‑on experience navigating multi-state US insurance regulatory frameworks and placements Understanding of autonomous vehicle risk themes and associated liability models, consistent with market-leading AV insurance roles Proven success leading cross-functional initiatives, interfacing with legal, policy, safety, engineering, operations, and industry stakeholders High proficiency with financial analysis, policy documentation, exposure modeling, and insurance data structures. Comfortable working with tight deadlines; must be proactive and able to multi-task Professional financial analysis experience or related experience in accounting Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to work with minimal supervision Excellent teamwork ability and strong interpersonal skills Tools proficiency: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, ThinkCell Experience structuring international / global programs Exposure to the AV / tech ecosystem German language skills
