Job Description

The Risk & Controls Analyst will support fraud operations, third-party risk, regulatory compliance, and operational risk management activities within a financial services or fintech environment. The role is responsible for executing control assessments, identifying control gaps, tracking issues and exceptions through closure, performing root cause analysis, and preparing governance-ready reporting for leadership and risk stakeholders.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Execute control assessments, quality reviews, and compliance testing across fraud operations, consumer banking, mortgage, and third-party risk processes.
- Validate investigative processes, case documentation, analyst decisions, and operational procedures against internal policy, regulatory requirements, and governance standards.
- Identify control gaps, quality issues, regulatory exceptions, and operational risks; perform root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions.
- Track issues, exceptions, remediation plans, and management action plans through closure while monitoring aging, escalation needs, and audit readiness.
- Conduct third-party and affiliate risk assessments, including inherent risk questionnaires, due diligence reviews, and vendor risk documentation.
- Prepare monthly dashboards, executive reports, and governance updates summarizing control performance, exception trends, remediation status, and emerging fraud or compliance risks.
- Run SQL queries and review data outputs to identify anomalies, control breaches, reporting gaps, and process improvement opportunities.
- Partner with Operations, Compliance, Risk, Legal, Technology, and business stakeholders to resolve findings and strengthen control effectiveness.
- Support SOP development, documentation updates, calibration sessions, analyst coaching, and continuous improvement initiatives.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of experience in risk, controls, fraud operations, quality assurance, compliance, mortgage/consumer lending, third-party risk, or financial services operations.
- Hands-on experience performing control testing, compliance reviews, QA reviews, issue management, remediation tracking, and root cause analysis.
- Working knowledge of financial services regulations and control expectations, including one or more of RESPA, Regulation B, ECOA, TRID, Regulation Z, AML, KYC, OFAC, or consumer protection requirements.
- Experience preparing management reporting, dashboards, exception tracking, and governance-ready documentation.
- Ability to analyze data, identify patterns and anomalies, and translate business or reporting requirements into clear technical requirements for data and technology teams.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
