Job Description
SUMMARY We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Legal and Risk Specialist to join our team in San Antonio, Texas. This individual contributor role supports all aspects of the organization's legal operations and risk management, including litigation coordination, claims processing, insurance procurement, vendor credentialing, and safety and operational risk programs. The ideal candidate brings the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment with a solid understanding of commercial insurance, legal compliance, and effective claims and litigation coordination.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Insurance Program Management:
In collaboration with a risk management consultant, manage the end-to-end procurement process for all lines of commercial insurance, including Commercial General Liability, Umbrella, Employment Practices Liability (EPL), Errors & Omissions (E&O), Property & Casualty, Cyber, Workers' Compensation, Crime, and other relevant coverages. Collaborate effectively with insurance brokers to timely obtain compliant certificates of insurance upon renewal and ensure ongoing compliance. Oversee and facilitate all insurance-related audits.Legal Operations & Litigation Support:
Support the intake, documentation, and monitoring of litigation matters, coordinating with legal counsel and internal stakeholders as needed. Assist with termination and disposition management processes in coordination with operations teams.Contractual Compliance & Documentation:
Review all property management agreements, and commercial leases to meticulously identify and document specific insurance requirements. Develop and maintain a comprehensive master list of all contractual insurance obligations and reporting requirements. Verify that Vendor Compliance tools requirement aligns with existing property management agreements.Risk Mitigation & Policy Development:
Formulate, implement, and maintain corporate initiatives, policies, guidelines, and programs to effectively identify, control, prevent, and mitigate financial and operational risks. Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential exposures and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies. Provide oversight for Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to risk and safety. Verify that Vendor Compliance tools requirements align with existing property management agreements. RequirementsSKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Risk Management, Legal Studies, Finance, or a related field. 5+ years of progressive experience in risk management, legal operations, insurance, or a related compliance role — preferably within a real estate or property management environment. Skilled at multitasking, communicating effectively, and driving tasks through to completion. Demonstrated experience supporting a comprehensive commercial insurance program, including working with brokers. Exposure to litigation coordination, claims management, or legal operations; paralegal experience is a plus. Strong understanding of insurance policy structures, terms, and conditions. Proficiency in reviewing and interpreting legal documents such as leases and property management agreements to extract insurance and legal requirements. Experience with vendor management and credentialing platforms (e.g., Revyse, Trustlayer, RealPage, or similar) and their insurance verification processes. Knowledge of OSHA regulations and experience supporting workplace safety programs. Excellent organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail for manual tracking and record-keeping. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, external brokers, legal counsel, and vendors. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Relevant professional certifications (e.g., ARM, CPCU, or paralegal certification) are a plus.WORK ENVIRONMENT
