Annually Range Explanation:
Hiring Range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity. Pay Range is the entire compensation range for the position. The first review of applications will be on 09/25/2026. Pima County Department of Finance & Risk Management has an opening for multiple Accountant III's to join our accounting team in the Grants Division. The successful candidates will work collaboratively to ensure the accurate and timely disbursement of vendor payments consistent with regulatory requirements and contractual obligations. Duties include preparing monthly reconciliations, Federal Fiscal Reports (FFRs), approving accounts payable transactions within the general ledger system, billing funders, and providing support to vendors and County employees on payment processing inquiries. This is an in-office position located in Tucson, AZ, and cannot be remote. T he Finance & Risk Management Department is unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.Essential Functions:

Prepares, reviews, and interprets financial statements, reports, and supporting schedules in accordance with GAAP and County requirements; Analyzes complex financial data, including cash flow, revenues, and expenditures, and develops recommendations to support financial stability and decision-making; Monitors Countywide and departmental financial activity to ensure accuracy, integrity, and compliance with policies and regulations; Oversees complex reconciliations and resolves significant discrepancies in financial records and reporting; Leads accounting activities related to grants, including compliance monitoring, reporting, and coordination of audit requirements; Ensures accuracy and integrity of financial reporting by identifying systemic issues and recommending corrective actions; Researches and applies changes in accounting standards, regulations, and legislation impacting County financial operations; Develops and implements improvements to accounting processes, internal controls, and financial reporting systems; Provides advanced technical guidance and consultation to staff and departmental users on accounting practices and financial systems; Participates in audits by preparing complex documentation, analyzing findings, and coordinating resolution of issues.Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, economics, business administration, or a closely related field, as defined by the department head at the time of recruitment AND two years of professional accounting or financial statement auditing experience. (A Master's degree or CPA designation may substitute for one year of required experience.) (Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)OR:
One year with Pima County in an Accountant II- Central Services or related position as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.
Preferred Qualifications :

Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.): Bachelor's degree (or higher) in finance or accounting. Licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Minimum two (2) years experience compiling and analyzing data to prepare financial statements. Minimum two (2) years experience using Microsoft Excel, specifically with pivot tables and formulas. Minimum two (2) years experience performing account reconciliations. Minimum two (2) years experience working within a governmental accounting environment. Selection Proce dure : Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Licenses and Certificates :
Some positions require a valid Arizona Class D driver license at the time of application or appointment. Failure to maintain the required licensure shall be grounds for termination.Special Notice Items :
