This leadership role will work closely with operations, safety, maintenance, legal counsel, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators to minimize organizational risk, control claim costs, ensure regulatory compliance, and support a culture of safety throughout the organization. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in transportation, fleet operations, insurance claims management, workers' compensation, regulatory compliance, and litigation coordination. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Claims & Insurance Management Oversee all auto liability, workers' compensation, and general liability claims. Serve as the primary liaison between the company, insurance carriers, brokers, and third-party administrators (TPAs). Manage claim investigations and ensure timely resolution of claims. Coordinate subrogation and recovery efforts to reduce company losses. Monitor claim reserves and evaluate settlement strategies. Lead annual insurance renewal processes and assist in policy negotiations. Ensure contract insurance compliance for customers, vendors, and subcontractors. Analyze claim trends and recommend risk mitigation strategies. Legal Coordination Serve as the primary company contact for labor and employment counsel. Coordinate responses to employment-related claims, investigations, and litigation. Manage litigation tracking and reporting. Coordinate EEOC, DFEH, and other regulatory agency responses. Oversee document preservation, evidence collection, and legal file management. Support legal counsel with discovery requests and case preparation. Safety & Loss Prevention Partner with Driver Safety Coordinators and Driver Trainers to reduce preventable incidents. Review all preventable accidents and determine contributing factors. Conduct trend analysis on accidents, injuries, and claims. Develop and implement corrective action plans to reduce risk exposure. Chair Accident Review Committee meetings and communicate findings to leadership. Support company-wide safety initiatives and continuous improvement programs. Reporting & Analytics Prepare and present monthly claims dashboards for executive leadership. Maintain and distribute open litigation reports. Track and report workers' compensation activity and trends. Analyze accident frequency, severity, and root causes. Develop compliance status reports and key performance indicators (KPIs). Provide strategic recommendations based on risk and compliance data.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, Safety Management, Human Resources, Legal Studies, or a related field. 5+ years of progressive experience in risk management, insurance claims, compliance, safety, or transportation operations. 3+ years of leadership or management experience.
Strong knowledge of:
Auto Liability Claims Workers' Compensation General Liability Claims Employment Law Coordination Fleet Compliance and Regulatory Requirements Insurance Programs and Renewals Experience working with insurance carriers, brokers, TPAs, and legal counsel. Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and reporting tools. Preferred Transportation, trucking, motorcoach, transit, or school bus industry experience.
Pay:
$120,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year

Have you pursued subrogation or recovery claims against third parties? If yes, provide an example and the outcome. Describe your experience overseeing vehicle registrations, regulatory compliance, DOT/FMCSA requirements, CHP compliance, insurance compliance, or similar programs. Describe the largest risk management program you have overseen, including fleet size, annual insurance spend, number of employees, claim volume, and your direct responsibilities.
