GENERAL SUMMARY
The At-Risk Coordinator provides intensive, school-based leadership, coordination, and direct student support at Vance County High School for students who are at risk of academic failure, chronic absenteeism, behavioral difficulty, disengagement, dropping out, or failing to graduate on time.
The primary focus of the position is the early identification of students demonstrating academic, attendance, behavioral, social-emotional, credit accumulation, or engagement concerns and the development, coordination, and monitoring of individualized interventions designed to keep students connected to school and progressing toward on-time graduation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Identifies and monitors students at risk of non-promotion or non-graduation using attendance, grades, course failures, credits earned, discipline, behavior, engagement, and other available student data.
Develops, implements, monitors, and adjusts individualized intervention plans for students requiring intensive academic, behavioral, attendance, or engagement support.
Provides individual and small-group interventions, including mentoring, goal setting, conflict resolution, social-emotional skill development, problem solving, and student reengagement.
Maintains an at-risk student tracking system documenting identified concerns, interventions, progress, family contacts, referrals, and recommended next steps.
Monitors students who are chronically absent, significantly behind in credits, failing multiple courses, or otherwise demonstrating elevated risk of dropping out or failing to graduate.
Works closely with administrators, counselors, social workers, teachers, and other school personnel to coordinate supports for identified students.
Contacts and engages parents and guardians regarding attendance, academic, behavioral, credit, and graduation concerns and facilitates student or family intervention meetings as appropriate.
Coordinates reentry and transition supports for students returning from long-term suspension, alternative placement, juvenile justice involvement, hospitalization, extended absence, or other significant disruption to their education.
Collaborates with appropriate personnel in developing and monitoring behavioral interventions, Behavior Intervention Plans, crisis-prevention strategies, restorative supports, and de-escalation plans as needed.
Supports students considering withdrawal from school by identifying barriers, discussing available options, connecting students and families with appropriate resources, and promoting continued participation in an educational pathway.
Collaborates with school counselors and administrators to monitor credit accumulation, graduation requirements, credit-recovery needs, and other indicators affecting students' progress toward graduation.
Connects students and families with appropriate school-based, district, and community resources and collaborates with outside agencies when additional support is needed.
Reviews student outcome data to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, identify trends, and recommend changes in student-support strategies to school leadership.
Participates in MTSS, attendance, student support, graduation, school improvement, and other collaborative teams as assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent, or designee.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education, counseling, psychology, social work, behavioral science, human services, educational leadership, or a related field is required. A master's degree in counseling, psychology, social work, behavioral science, educational leadership, or a related field is preferred. The position requires a minimum of three years of successful experience working with children or adolescents who demonstrate significant behavioral, social-emotional, or engagement needs. Experience with dropout prevention, student intervention, attendance improvement, behavior support, mentoring, student reengagement, credit recovery, alternative education, or graduation support is preferred.
A valid North Carolina educator license in teaching, student services, administration, or another related area is preferred. An equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant professional experience may be considered.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
The employee must complete and maintain district-approved training in crisis prevention, de-escalation, and physical intervention techniques and must possess a valid driver's license with the ability to travel among district schools and community locations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of adolescent development, student engagement, dropout prevention, attendance intervention, behavioral supports, restorative practices, MTSS, and graduation-risk factors.
Ability to analyze student data and identify appropriate interventions.
Ability to develop, implement, monitor, and adjust individualized student support plans.
Skill in mentoring, conflict resolution, de-escalation, problem solving, and individual or small-group student support.
Ability to build productive relationships with students, families, school personnel, and community partners.
Strong communication, organization, documentation, data-analysis, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to maintain confidential student records and manage multiple student cases and priorities.
