JOB SUMMARY
Supports business requests and assists with preparation of data required for corporate tax filings related to sales and use, personal property, income tax, license renewals, and miscellaneous returns/reports. Assists with audits and responses to tax notices. Assists with analysis and preparation of reconciliation of Tax Department's general ledger accounts.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists with US sales and use and Canadian commodity tax projects. Assists with monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns, which includes assisting with collection of data, processing and filing returns, and coordination with outside service provider. Administers exemption certificates, which include issuing requested certificates, maintaining, and collecting customer tax certificates. Updates and maintains timely tax-exempt certificates. Assists with maintenance of Vertex/SAP system, including transitioning into fully utilizing the new system. Provides audit support and responds to notices and related requests. Assists with personal property projects, including collecting required data, processing and filing renditions, paying bills, and responding to other related requests. Assists with audit support and responses to notices and related requests. Collects information required for account analysis of Tax Department's general ledger accounts and coordinates recurring and year-end accounting entries in support of the Accounting Department. Assists with federal, state, and Canadian income tax projects, including collecting data, preparing required data and processing, and processing estimated tax vouchers and returns. Prepares filings of miscellaneous returns and forms, including license renewal and annual reports for various US and Canadian jurisdictions. Performs special projects as assigned. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: Director, Tax
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING
Bachelor's Degree (Accounting and Finance or related discipline preferred) 2 years or less of experience in Accounting, Finance, or Tax (preferred).
KNOWLEDGE
General knowledge of accounting principles/practices preferred General knowledge of federal and state income and sales and use tax laws and regulations preferred
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (including Excel and Word) Knowledgeable in using AI (preferred) Proficient in Vertex system (preferred) Proficient in SAP accounting system (preferred) Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong organizational skills Ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments
PHYSICAL STANDARDS
The employee must be able to access, enter, retrieve, maintain, and analyze data using a computer. This is primarily a sedentary position in a controlled office environment which requires only occasional reaching, stooping, and lifting of office files, reports, or records (typically weighing five lbs. or less).
PAY SCALE
The pay scale for this position is between $27.90 and $34.18. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
