Job Description
We are looking for a Sales & Use Tax Staff Accountant to join a contract assignment supporting a real estate investment trust. This opportunity is ideal for a detail-oriented tax specialist who can quickly step into a multi-state environment, evaluate transaction-level tax treatment, and maintain strong supporting documentation across jurisdictions. The role calls for someone who is comfortable working independently, navigating varying state and local sales and use tax rules, and contributing effectively in a fast-moving business setting.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze transaction records to determine appropriate sales and use tax treatment across multiple states and local jurisdictions.
- Research tax rules, filing requirements, and nexus considerations to support accurate compliance decisions for different legal entities.
- Review and organize exemption certificates, legal support, and other tax documentation needed to substantiate tax positions.
- Prepare and support sales and use tax return activities, helping ensure filings are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Work within RealPage Operations and jurisdiction-specific online tax portals to perform reviews, validate information, and maintain compliance records.
- Record and reconcile tax-related journal entries and general ledger activity connected to indirect tax matters.
- Monitor changing legislative and regulatory requirements that may affect taxability, reporting, or documentation obligations.
- Provide direct support for ongoing tax compliance needs during a period of organizational change, taking ownership of assigned responsibilities with minimal ramp-up time.
