POSITION OVERVIEW
Provides customer service, clerical support, and basic bookkeeping assistance within the Brooks County Tax Commissioner's Office. Assists residents with motor vehicle registrations, property tax payments, and related inquiries in compliance with state and local regulations. Reports to the Tax Commissioner and is responsible for processing payments, verifying documents, entering data, maintaining records, and supporting daily balancing and reconciliation. As one of the most public-facing roles in county government, this position requires professionalism, accuracy, organization, and a service-oriented approach in a fast-paced environment. This position requires a high level of accountability, accuracy, and professionalism in handling public funds, sensitive information, and daily public interaction.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide customer service in person, by phone, and electronically
  • Process registrations, renewals, titles, and tax payments
  • Verify documentation and ensure compliance
  • Enter and maintain accurate records
  • Issue tags, decals, and permits
  • Balance transactions and prepare deposits
  • Maintain files and perform general clerical duties
  • Perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Customer service and communication skills
  • Basic computer and data entry skills
  • Cash handling accuracy
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Reliable transportation and daycare, if applicable
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screening
  • Valid Georgia driver's license preferred
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in tax, tag, banking, or government office
  • Knowledge of Georgia motor vehicle or tax processes
  • Cash handling and balancing experience
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Office setting with frequent public interaction; Monday-Friday schedule with occasional high-volume periods.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Salary based on qualifications and experience; benefits include health insurance, retirement, paid holidays, and leave.
