Under direct supervision this position is responsible for assigned tax compliance duties related to state and local sales/use, fuel, excise and miscellaneous indirect taxes. Assigned tasks may include preparation and filing of tax returns, license applications and information reports, processing tax payments and journal entries and handling inquiries related to company vehicles within strict guidelines. As needed, the incumbent may provide support during state or local tax audits and coordinate the receipt and/or distribution of tax exemption documents to support tax exempt sale or purchase transactions. The ability to learn and understand tax specific software applications is required. May be required to communicate with company personnel, customers or vendors to obtain tax data and transaction information. Typically requires a high school diploma and 3+ years' experience in business or accounting office environment preparing tax returns. Referral program, employee discount programs, and propane savings Responsibilities Completes state and local tax compliance tasks which includes processing bills, preparing returns, maintaining files, handling correspondence and utilizing tax specific software applications. Ability to understand tax return filing requirements for assigned returns and obtain the information needed to complete the return in order to timely file and pay the tax liability. Responsible for tabulating mileage and fuel data for company vehicles, verifying/processing exemption certificates and providing support during jurisdictional tax audits. Assists in ensuring the company remains compliant with tax return filings and state payment requirements. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Must live within driving distance from the Liberty, MO office. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred. 3+ year of experience in a business or accounting office environment. Business tax compliance knowledge required. Ability to understand tax filing processes, procedures and terminology. Ability to learn tax specific software applications and analyze data for reasonableness and accuracy. Vertex tax system experience in both rate determination and compliance forms systems preferred. Intermediate Microsoft Office software knowledge, with emphasis using Excel. Strong PC skills, Microsoft Office application (Excel, Word and Outlook) experience. Problem solver with strong attention to detail. Working in a group environment with strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Previous customer service experience.
