Prepares and files tax (including customs filings) returns and makes accurate and timely tax (including customs) return payments (via check, ACH or wire) to tax. Books journal entries as needed and reconciles tax liability general ledger accounts as required.

Maintains close liaison with Company personnel and pertinent areas in the accounting and operating departments; keeps informed of changes and developments in these areas; and plans and recommends procedures to minimize the tax cost and to improve tax compliance procedures.

Advises and assists operating personnel in making tax-efficient investment decisions through analysis of available options.

Register entities in new tax jurisdictions for motor fuels, sales & use tax, or related business and occupation licenses, as applicable. Maintain current licensing status for customers and suppliers and tax exemption, resale, and direct pay certificates, as applicableKeep abreast of tax law changes and perform tax research and interpret/document application to the company business which could have a significant impact on the company's financial results. Network with internal business partners to address questions and resolve issues regarding the reporting of any potential tax liability and changes in the business operations.

Manage jurisdictional audit; including, compile the requested information and respond to auditor requests timely, make recommendations on the statistical audit plan, review and challenge the audit results appropriately, and recommend audit settlement with tax management. Assist with compiling documentation to support audit protests and the tax reserve entries including assisting with preparing protests, briefs and petitions and participating in conferences with tax officials.

Identify and assist the implementation of process improvements for tax liability calculations, collection, filing and remittance procedures. Identify and recommend changes needed in tax determination and reporting systems and assist with implementation of systems updates.

Assist Tax management with special projects, including time sensitive and confidential projects. Bachelor's degree (
Major Discipline:
Accounting/Business/Finance/related field) or minimum of five (5) years of working for a multi-state enterprise with an understanding of property tax rules and regulations.
  • One (1) to two (2) years of tax preparation and filing experience
  • Experience with application of tax rules and regulations
  • Experience collaborating across all functions
