PEMEX Deer Park provides a diverse and inclusive work environment that employs approximately 1000 employees with another 1200 contractors on site. The refinery's rated capacity is 340,000 barrels per day and has the feed flexibility to process multiple grades of crudes to produce the high-quality transportation fuels the world needs. The PEMEX Deer Park site is co-located with other 3rd party chemical facilities allowing for further integration and optimization of the refinery and its products. For more information, please visit our website: PEMEX Job Summary The Finance & tax Analyst supports the execution of indirect tax compliance activities for Deer Park refinery operations, with a primary focus on Texas sales and use tax, federal and state excise taxes, and other indirect tax obligations . This role applies technical tax knowledge and sound judgment to analyze transactions, resolve tax issues, and support audit readiness, working within established policies, procedures, and guidance. As part of a small, agile finance team , this position requires flexibility and a willingness to support non‑tax finance activities as business needs evolve. The role is hands‑on and execution‑focused, contributing to the effectiveness and quality of the broader Finance organization.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities:
Indirect Tax Compliance & Analysis Perform sales and use tax and excise tax analysis for transactions supporting refinery operations, with emphasis on Texas manufacturing activities. Conduct tax research and taxability determinations for straightforward and moderately complex scenarios, applying established guidance and precedent. Support monthly transactional tax reviews to help ensure compliance accuracy and identify items requiring correction. Assist with preparation and support for monthly and quarterly indirect tax filings , working under the direction of the Tax Manager. Support maintenance and accuracy of tax‑related data in applicable systems and reports. Audit Support & Issue Resolution Provide support for direct pay and indirect tax audits , including data gathering, reconciliations, transaction testing, and audit documentation. Assist with responding to audit requests and resolving audit questions under established guidance. Monitor and summarize Texas sales and use tax law changes , escalating potential impacts to the Tax Manager. Cross‑Functional Support Respond to taxability and procedural questions from internal departments in clear, practical terms. Support resolution of vendor sales/use tax issues , partnering with Procurement and Accounts Payable on invoice review, corrections, and follow‑up. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to support accurate tax treatment within procure‑to‑pay and disbursement processes . Documentation & Controls Maintain and update desk procedures, process documentation, and compliance support materials . Follow established tax controls and procedures, raising potential issues or exceptions as identified. Participate in special projects and improvement initiatives supporting the tax function. Broader Finance Support & Flexibility Demonstrate a proactive, hands‑on approach , with a willingness to roll up sleeves and engage in operational details. Thrive in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment , adapting effectively to changing priorities and business needs. Be flexible and willing to take on new responsibilities outside of tax , supporting other finance functions (e.g., transactional support, reconciliations, reporting, or special initiatives) as required. Contribute to overall team effectiveness by supporting Finance priorities beyond defined tax responsibilities when needed. Job Knowledge, Skills & Experience Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Typically 4-6 years of indirect tax experience , with strong exposure to Texas sales and use tax. Experience supporting tax compliance in a manufacturing or operational environment preferred. Sales and use tax research and taxability analysis. Microsoft Excel proficiency; SAP or S/4HANA experience a plus. Familiarity with audit support, reconciliations, and transactional analysis.
Physical and other requirements:
Hybrid Schedule (3 days per week in the office) Occasional extended hours during filing periods, audits, or special initiatives. Authorization to work in the United States on a full‑time basis. Must currently hold or be able to qualify to receive a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
