Job Description
Senior Tax Associate Flow Through Entity Specialist Lakewood, CO Around $100,000 plus profit share and bonus There comes a point in public accounting where you've learnt the technical side of the job. The next challenge isn't preparing another tax return. It's finding a firm where the quality of the work matches the quality of the people around you. If you've built your career around S Corporations and Partnerships and enjoy the technical side of flow through taxation, this opportunity is worth a closer look. Not because it's the biggest firm in Colorado. Quite the opposite. It's because they've been very deliberate about what they've built, who they hire and the clients they choose to work with. The result is a specialist tax practice where quality has always mattered more than quantity. Why they're hiring This isn't a replacement. It's a long term investment. The firm continues to grow, but they're determined not to lose the culture that's made them successful in the first place. That means being selective. Selective about clients. Selective about hiring. Selective about making sure the people who join genuinely want to build a career rather than simply collect another job title. They're looking for a CPA with strong experience across S Corporations and Partnerships who enjoys technically challenging work and wants to become part of a team that's recognised for the quality of its advice. What makes this opportunity different? One thing stood out immediately when I spoke with the leadership team. This isn't a firm trying to be everything to everyone. They've built specialist tax teams that allow people to become genuine experts in what they do. This opportunity sits within the firm's dedicated Flow Through team, focusing on S Corporations and Partnerships, while a separate specialist team looks after Corporate Tax. That means you'll spend your time developing deeper expertise instead of constantly switching between completely different types of work. For accountants who genuinely enjoy tax, that's a huge advantage. The work The client base is sophisticated, and so are the conversations. You'll work with businesses that expect more than accurate compliance. They expect advice. Planning. Commercial thinking. The sort of relationship where you're the first person they call when an opportunity or challenge arises. Compliance is certainly part of the role, but it isn't the whole story. The focus is on delivering thoughtful tax solutions that genuinely help clients make better decisions. If you've come from a larger public accounting firm, you'll probably feel right at home. If you haven't, but you've developed strong technical knowledge and earned your CPA, they're equally happy to have that conversation. A different way of measuring success One of my favourite things about this firm is their approach to performance. There are no billable hour targets. No obsession with chargeable time. No culture built around squeezing another six minutes onto a timesheet. Instead, success is measured by the value you create for clients and the quality of the advice you provide. When I asked how they described their philosophy, one comment really stuck with me. "AI is actual intelligence." In other words, technology should help people do better work. It should never replace genuine thinking, good judgement or strong client relationships. It's a refreshing mindset in a profession that's changing quickly. Flexibility without compromise Whether you prefer working in the office, a hybrid arrangement or remotely, they're open minded. They already have people working successfully from several different states, and they regularly bring the whole firm together twice a year with all travel covered by the business. The focus isn't where you're sitting. It's whether you're contributing, collaborating and delivering for your clients. The practical bits Alongside a competitive salary, you'll receive: Base salary around $100,000 Profit share paid twice a year Additional performance bonuses $1,250 monthly healthcare allowance, with any unused amount paid directly to you Company 401(k) contribution of around 4 to 5 percent Hybrid, office based or fully remote working Busy season typically capped at around 55 hours Fully paid travel for firm wide events Who tends to thrive here? Usually someone who enjoys solving complex tax problems. Someone who's naturally curious. Someone who would rather work with a smaller number of interesting clients than process a high volume of routine compliance work. Most importantly, someone who wants to join a firm that's just as selective about the people it hires as the clients it chooses to represent. What they're looking for To be successful in this role, you'll ideally have: CPA qualification, which is essential Strong experience with S Corporations and Partnership taxation Around three to five years of public accounting experience A genuine interest in flow through entities The confidence to build trusted client relationships A long term mindset and a collaborative approach If you're looking for a role where technical tax work, client relationships and work life balance can genuinely exist together, I'd love to tell you more. Not ready with a resume? Or want a bit more information before applying? That's fine. Apply the old fashioned way, or simply reach out to me on LinkedIn or through the Distinct Recruitment website. I'll happily talk you through the role, the firm, and where it could take you before you make any commitments. I'm Abigail Stephen, Recruiter at Distinct. I don't just look at job specs. I look at people, and where they'll thrive. It's not about filling gaps. It's about finding a fit that lasts. Outside of work, balance for me is Pilates to reset, travel to explore, and skiing to recharge. Because the truth is, you don't slog through hours for the love of a spreadsheet. You do it for the freedom it buys you. Same principle here.
