Position Summary The Senior Tax Associate is responsible for preparing accurate and complete federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts, and estates. This position works closely with clients to gather financial data, identify tax-saving opportunities, and ensure compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations. In addition, this role provides oversight and high-level review of bookkeeping work, ensuring financial records are accurate, complete, and tax ready. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, client-focused, and capable of both executing tax work and supervising supporting accounting functions. Key Responsibilities Tax Preparation & Compliance Prepare individual (1040), corporate (1120/1120-S), partnership (1065), trust (1041), and nonprofit (990) tax returns Review financial statements, general ledgers, and supporting documents to ensure accuracy Identify applicable deductions, credits, and elections to minimize client tax liability Prepare and file federal, state, and local tax returns within required deadlines Respond to IRS and state agency notices, inquiries, and audits on behalf of clients Calculate estimated tax payments and advise clients on quarterly obligations Review and validate underlying bookkeeping data prior to tax return preparation Make necessary adjusting entries to ensure accurate tax reporting Coordinate with bookkeeping team to resolve discrepancies before filing Bookkeeping Oversight & Review Perform high-level review of financial statements, reconciliations, and general ledger activity prepared by the Bookkeeper Ensure bookkeeping work is accurate, complete, and aligned with tax reporting requirements Identify and correct classification errors, inconsistencies, and potential compliance issues Provide guidance and feedback to bookkeeping staff to improve accuracy and efficiency Establish and maintain standardized processes for month-end close and documentation Review and approve adjusting journal entries and year-end close work Ensure client financials are tax-ready and properly structured for return preparation Serve as escalation point for complex accounting issues identified by the Bookkeeper Collaborate with Bookkeeper on client communication related to financial discrepancies or cleanup needs Client Services Build and maintain strong client relationships through proactive, professional communication Interview clients to obtain relevant financial and personal information for tax preparation Explain complex tax concepts and return results in clear, understandable terms Provide year-round tax planning advice to minimize future tax liabilities Identify cross-selling opportunities for additional accounting, advisory, or consulting services Quality & Process Review work product for accuracy, completeness, and compliance prior to submission Maintain thorough and organized client files in accordance with firm documentation standards Stay current on federal and state tax law changes, rulings, and regulatory updates Utilize tax software efficiently and accurately Ensure integration between bookkeeping outputs and tax preparation workflows Maintain quality control standards across both bookkeeping and tax engagements Other duties as assigned Qualifications Required Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent license in good standing OR currently pursuing licensure with at least 5 years of industry experience Proficiency with professional tax preparation software Strong knowledge of federal and state individual and business tax law Excellent analytical, organizational, and time-management skills Ability to manage multiple engagements simultaneously under seasonal deadlines Preferred Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field Experience supervising or reviewing bookkeeping/accounting staff Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and month-end close processes Ability to translate accounting records into tax-ready financialsPay:
