Job Description

Shahbaz & Associates, CPAs seeks an experienced Senior Tax Associate to support our US taxation practice. The Senior Tax Associate prepares and reviews a broad range of US federal and state tax returns, serves as a technical resource on engagements, and plays a key role in reviewing the work of junior staff and mentoring them toward professional growth. This role reports to the Tax Manager / Tax Partner and works closely with associates and the broader engagement team Tax Preparation & Compliance Prepare and self-review complex US federal, state, and local income tax returns for individuals, corporations (C-Corp and S-Corp), partnerships, and trusts (Forms 1040, 1120, 1120-S, 1065, 1041). Prepare quarterly estimated tax payments, extensions, and year-end tax provisions. Handle multi-state tax filings, apportionment, and nexus determinations. Address international tax compliance forms where applicable (e.g., Forms 5471, 5472, FBAR/Fin
CEN 114, 1116, 2555
). Review & Quality Control Review tax returns and supporting workpapers prepared by junior associates for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable tax laws and firm standards. Identify and resolve errors, missing information, and tax-planning opportunities before returns are submitted to the Manager or Partner. Ensure proper documentation and adherence to firm quality-control and review procedures. Provide clear, constructive review notes and confirm that corrections are implemented before sign-off. Training, Mentoring & Supervision of Junior Staff Train and onboard junior associates and interns on US tax concepts, return preparation, software, and firm workflows. Mentor and coach junior staff, providing ongoing feedback to support their technical and professional development. Delegate and supervise the work of junior associates, monitoring progress against deadlines and budgets. Lead or contribute to internal training sessions and knowledge-sharing on tax-law updates and best practices. Serve as a first point of contact for junior staff questions and act as a positive role model for the team. Client & Engagement Management Communicate with clients to gather information, resolve open items, and respond to tax notices and inquiries. Manage assigned engagements to meet filing deadlines, time budgets, and quality expectations. Coordinate with managers and partners on engagement status, issues, and planning opportunities. Tax Research & Technical Support Research federal and state tax issues and document conclusions to support filing positions. Stay current on changes in US tax legislation, IRS regulations, and relevant state guidance. Assist with tax planning and advisory projects to help clients minimize tax liability and maintain compliance.
Pay:
$80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
