Position Overview Shahbaz & Associates, CPAs is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Tax Associate to join our growing US taxation practice. This is an entry-level opportunity ideal for an early-career professional looking to build a strong foundation in US federal and state tax compliance. Working under the guidance of senior staff and the Tax Partner, the Tax Associate prepares a range of tax returns, supports engagement workflows, and gradually takes on greater responsibility as their skills develop. Job Title Tax Associate (US Taxation) Department Tax Services Reports To Senior Tax Associate / Tax Partner Employment Type Full-time Experience Level Entry Level (0-2 years) Salary Range $55,000 - $60,000 per year Key Roles & Responsibilities Tax Preparation & Compliance Prepare US federal, state, and local income tax returns for individuals, corporations (C-Corp and S-Corp), partnerships, and trusts (Forms 1040, 1120, 1120-S, 1065, 1041) under supervision. Assist with quarterly estimated tax payments, extensions, and year-end tax provisions. Support multi-state tax filings, apportionment, and basic nexus determinations. Help compile information for international tax compliance forms where applicable (e.g., Forms 5471, 5472, FBAR/Fin
CEN 114, 1116, 2555
). Learning & Quality Self-review returns and workpapers for accuracy and completeness before submitting them for senior review. Apply review notes promptly and learn from feedback to strengthen technical skills. Follow firm quality-control, documentation, and review procedures. Client & Engagement Support Assist in gathering client information, organizing documents, and following up on open items. Help track engagement deadlines, time budgets, and deliverables. Communicate professionally with team members and, with guidance, with clients. Tax Research & Professional Development Conduct guided research on federal and state tax issues and document findings. Stay current on changes in US tax legislation, IRS regulations, and relevant state guidance. Participate actively in internal training and knowledge-sharing sessions. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or near completion). 0-2 years of relevant experience; internships in tax or public accounting are a plus. Foundational understanding of US federal and state tax concepts. Progress toward CPA eligibility or licensure is a strong advantage. Skills & Competencies Familiarity with tax preparation/research software (e.g., CCH Axcess/ProSystem fx) and Microsoft Excel, or eagerness to learn. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with high attention to detail. Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage time and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Willingness to learn, take feedback, and grow within the firm. Commitment to confidentiality, professional ethics, and continuous learning.
