Job Description
Description Robert Half Management Resources is looking for an accomplished Tax Director or Senior Manager to lead complex state and local tax compliance efforts for one of our clients on an interim basis. This position will focus on providing senior-level technical oversight for a large volume of corporate state filings, with an immediate impact on compliance quality and accuracy. The ideal candidate brings strong multistate tax expertise, sound judgment in return review, and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional tax teams in a remote environment.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the technical review of a high volume of corporate state income and franchise tax returns spanning combined, consolidated, and separate filing jurisdictions.
- Evaluate detailed federal-to-state adjustment workpapers, including state-specific modifications, intercompany items, and utilization of tax attributes.
- Oversee return-to-provision true-up analyses and identify journal entry impacts resulting from state tax return adjustments.
- Apply advanced knowledge of state apportionment rules and revenue sourcing approaches relevant to reseller and service-based business models.
- Assess state conformity considerations, legislative developments, and available credits or incentives that may affect compliance outcomes.
- Review Excel-based tax workpapers and coordinate with team members responsible for implementing updates within Corptax.
- Provide practical guidance to support efficient completion of compliance deliverables across a fast-paced, high-volume tax environment.
- Contribute insight into Alteryx-driven process improvements related to state apportionment workflows when applicable. Requirements
- Extensive experience at the Senior Manager or Director level within corporate state tax compliance and advisory work.
- Deep understanding of multistate corporate income and franchise tax requirements for large and complex business structures.
- Demonstrated success reviewing large volumes of corporate state tax filings with a high degree of technical accuracy.
- Strong expertise in state sourcing and apportionment methodologies for reseller and service-oriented organizations.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel for tax workpaper analysis, review, and reconciliation.
- Prior experience working in or alongside Corptax environments is preferred.
- Familiarity with Alteryx or exposure to workflow automation in tax processes is highly desirable.
