Overview:
Our client is a rapidly growing wealth management and tax (RIA) firm with locations all across the U.S. They are hiring Senior Tax Managers in several locations in California to join their firm's Tax Practice as the Lead Team Member for tax compliance and tax planning for new and existing firm clients. As a Senior Tax Manager, you will lead the Tax Team and provide exceptional service to high-net-worth individual clients, including federal and state income tax, fiduciary, partnership, trust, estate, gift, and charitable tax planning and consulting. You will also ensure compliance and perform final review and sign-off on federal and state tax returns. A strong consulting background is a requirement for this position, as well as experience in wealth management and tax (RIA) firms, and preferably from one of the Big 4 Accounting Firms.
Responsibilities:
Provide recommendations for business innovation and process improvements relative to the client's operations and objectives as well as the internal processes of the firm. Proactively participate in practice development by contributing to thought leadership and identifying service opportunities. Collaborate with the team and partners on proposals and business development calls. Contribute to project revenue and profit objectives through effective management of budgeting, project execution, invoicing, and collecting functions. Build and maintain personal relationships with high-net-worth individual clients, as the tax expert on the Planning Team. Actively participate in signing and onboarding new clients to the firm (through referrals or outreach). Lead the Tax Client Service Team for compliance and tax planning. Perform final reviews of tax returns (federal & state income tax returns for high-net-worth individuals, their closely held businesses, fiduciaries, partnerships, trusts, estates, and gifts). Oversee tax projections and tax audits for clients. Assist clients by attending client meetings and delivering tax plans.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Must be a California Licensed Certified Public Account (CPA) or Tax Attorney (JD/LLM). Bachelor's Degree is required / Master's Degree in Taxation is preferred. Highly developed Microsoft Office Suite skills (Word, Excel). Proficiency in or ability to adapt quickly to new tax software and research tools (i.e., CCH Axcess Tax, BNA Income Tax Planner, and CCH IntelliConnect) 5+ years of experience as a Tax Manager or Senior Tax Manager, focusing on high net-worth individual clients with assets exceeding $3M in all of their tax planning and compliance needs, including their closely held businesses, trusts, estates, gift, partnership, and fiduciary tax planning, consulting, and advisory. 5+ years of experience working in a wealth management or professional financial services firm (preferably one of the Big 4 Accounting Firms), providing comprehensive tax services to high-net-worth individuals and their closely held businesses. 4+ years of experience in a tax leadership position. 4+ years of experience working for a well-known firm (preferably a wealth management and tax (RIA) firm), with leadership responsibilities, including mentoring, coaching, and leading a professional tax team. Strong time management and project management skills. Strong tax research and professional writing skills, including creating and giving presentations. Demonstrated leadership, analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and project management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proven ability to manage heavy workloads and projects, many on a time-sensitive basis. Must be willing to work fully on-site in one of the listed locations. 4+ years of wealth management experience in a tax department. Ability to interact with a tight-knit team of professionals with a wide range of tax knowledge. Highly motivated with the ability to function well in a fast-paced, high-opportunity business environment with continued growth and development.
