Job Description

Senior Tax Manager Fowler Packing - 4.2 Fresno, CA Job Details Full-time $150,000 - $175,000 a year 20 hours ago Qualifications Team leadership Team development Staff development Full Job Description If you have built real technical depth in pass-through taxation and you are ready to own a tax function rather than a client list, this is that role. We are a multi-entity agricultural and real estate organization. The Senior Tax Manager leads a small tax team and owns the outcome, with outside CPA consulting support available on technical matters. At Fowler Packing Company, based in Fresno, California, we've spent over 75 years leading the way in agriculture, real estate development, and interior design. Our portfolio includes Peelz Citrus, Samsons Grapes, G3 Development Company, and EMID Design Group—each a reflection of our commitment to quality, innovation, and integrity. What began in 1950 as a small tree fruit operation has grown into a respected leader in the industry.
Our mission is simple:
People, Produce, and Passion. We invest in our team, deliver exceptional products, and bring heart to everything we do. If you're looking for more than just a job—if you want to be part of a company where your work matters, your growth is supported, and your passion is welcomed—this is the opportunity you've been waiting for. Direct visibility to executive leadership and ownership. A real team underneath you. Technical work that is genuinely varied rather than a hundred versions of the same return. And no billable hours. This is a role for someone who still loves the tax work itself — the research, the technical puzzles, the satisfaction of a return that ties out cleanly — and wants to stay close to it rather than trade it away for administration. Working closely with ownership and operational leaders, you will connect the tax technicals to the bigger picture: analyzing entity structures, translating seasonal performance into financial strategy, and steering key decisions on cash flow and transaction timing. Few tax roles let you keep both.
Essential Functions:
  • Review complex federal and California returns for partnerships, S corporations, C corporations, LLCs, and trusts.
  • Manage the compliance calendar, assign work across the team, and keep the filing season on schedule.
  • Coach and develop a small tax team — teach the concepts, not just correct the return.
  • Work alongside outside CPA consultants on technical matters and keep open items moving to resolution.
  • Prepare the annual ASC 740 provision and maintain deferred tax balances.
  • Handle IRS, FTB, and CDTFA notices and examinations from first letter to resolution.
  • Bring planning ideas forward: entity structuring, §1031 exchanges, credits and incentives, multi-year cash tax projections, and legislative changes that matter to ownership.
  • Active CPA license and 6+ years of progressive tax experience.
  • Deep pass-through expertise — partnership allocations, basis, §704(c), §754, and §163(j) should be familiar territory.
  • Direct supervisory experience, including quality review of staff deliverables and team member development.
  • Current PTIN, or eligibility to obtain one before your first filing season here.
  • Agriculture, agribusiness, or real estate experience is a strong plus. So is familiarity with §263A pre-productive costs, cooperative patronage, and California conformity differences — we'll provide the industry-specific training to the right technical candidate.
  • Valid CA DL/Clean drivers record may be required.
