Job Description
Jeff Abrams with Robert Half is looking for a detail-oriented tax specialist to lead complex compliance and planning work for high-net-worth individuals, trusts, and closely held entities for his client. This position blends hands-on return preparation with technical review, year-round projections, and strategic guidance for clients with sophisticated financial profiles. The role also partners with internal leadership and advisors to support entity-level tax matters, owner planning, and integrated wealth strategies.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the preparation and final review of individual and trust tax filings, with direct involvement in the most complex federal, California, and multi-state returns.
- Oversee tax compliance for related business entities, including partnership, S corporation, and C corporation filings, while ensuring California-specific elections and required tax payments are completed accurately.
- Prepare personal income tax returns for firm owners and support their ongoing tax compliance needs throughout the year.
- Develop tax projections, estimate liabilities, and calculate quarterly payments for clients and principals to improve planning and cash flow management.
- Partner with the Controller on year-end tax reporting activities, including entity tax calculations, adjusting entries, and book close support for affiliated entities.
- Deliver planning guidance for clients with equity compensation, including analysis of tax impacts tied to stock-based awards and related transactions.
- Identify opportunities to reduce tax exposure and improve overall efficiency through proactive planning across individual, trust, and entity structures.
- Work closely with advisors to align tax recommendations with broader investment and wealth planning objectives.
- Coordinate with external specialists when estate tax return preparation is outsourced, while contributing to estate-related tax planning as needed.
