JOB SUMMARY AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Manager level role joining a team responsible for tax compliance and technical oversight for a multi‑billion‑dollar international real estate platform with a heavy partnership focus and a meaningful REIT footprint. Compliance Management Manage tax compliance calendar for assigned legal entities; ensure timely filing of federal, state, local, and select foreign obligations, including extensions and payments. Manage high-volume filings such as Forms 1065, 1120‑REIT, 1120, 1042/1042‑S, 8804/8805, 8288/8288‑A, and applicable state composite/withholding returns. Prepare and review workpapers/tax returns for corporate and investment entities Manage external firm deliverables, and coordinate data requests and deliverables. Operates in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment requiring strong project management, controls, and process standardization. Technical review and guidance Manage preparation and/or review of partnership tax returns and K‑1 packages, including §704(b) capital and tax-basis reporting, §752 debt allocations, special allocations, waterfalls, and 704(c) mechanics. Assist with tax impacts of acquisitions, dispositions, and restructurings, including §168 depreciation, cost segregation, §163(j) interest limitations, §754/734/743 elections, and gain/loss modeling.
Manage inbound/outbound investor issues:
FIRPTA (§897/§1445), §1446(a)/(f) withholding, ECI determinations, FATCA/CRS documentation (W‑8/W‑9), and foreign investor reporting.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a closely related field. Active
U.S. CPA
license in good standing preferred or active pursuit of CPA license. 4 or more years of progressive U.S. federal and state tax experience with a concentration in real estate partnerships. Direct experience with REIT compliance and testing is a plus. Experience following a large, multi-entity compliance calendar and leading/supervising tax preparers. Experience preparing and reviewing complex partnership returns and workpapers, including K-1 packages and related disclosures.
TECHNICAL/IT SKILLS
Tax compliance systems: CCH Axcess Tax (preparation and E‑file), CCH Workflow (calendar and task tracking), ProSystem fx Fixed Assets (depreciation), and ProSystem fx Workpaper Manager (workpapers). Familiarity with state income tax compliance and state agency communications
Advanced Excel:
Power Query/Power Pivot, pivot tables, lookups (XLOOKUP/INDEX‑MATCH), complex formulas; ability to design standardized, review-ready workpapers.
Workflow and document management:
Microsoft Teams/SharePoint.
Research tools:
CCH AnswerConnect (research); ability to document positions with citations.
Secure data handling:
Comfort with data governance, secure file transfer, and PII controls when exchanging K‑1/withholding data with investors and advisors.
Withholding/reporting portals:
Experience with 1042‑S/8804/8805 e‑filing processes and investor portal workflows.
