Tax Manager, Private Client (High Net Worth)

Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead compliance and planning for high net worth individuals and their related entities. This role focuses on managing 1040 preparation and U.S. tax matters for HNWI and UHNWI clients, delivering strategic tax planning, ensuring compliance, and building trusted client relationships. The Tax Manager will supervise a small team, coordinate with advisors, and provide technical guidance on complex personal tax issues.

Key ResponsibilitiesManage and review individual federal and state 1040 tax returns and related schedules for HNWI and UHNWI clients, ensuring accuracy and timely filing.

Lead tax compliance and planning for private clients, including trusts, estates, partnerships, and personal corporations (PCs), and coordinate filings for related entities.

Provide proactive tax planning and consulting to minimize tax liabilities and support client goals, including income, gift, estate, and international tax considerations.

Supervise, mentor, and delegate work to staff; review workpapers and tax positions; ensure adherence to firm policies and quality standards.

Serve as primary client contact for complex tax issues, build and maintain strong relationships, and communicate tax strategies clearly to non-technical clients.

Perform technical tax research and apply authoritative guidance to resolve complex or unusual tax matters; document positions and prepare memos as needed.

Coordinate with external advisors (estate planners, investment managers, legal counsel) to deliver integrated tax and wealth-management solutions.

Support business development and relationship management activities by assisting with proposals, client meetings, and thought leadership on private client tax topics.

QualificationsBachelors degree in Accounting, Taxation or related field; advanced degree (JD or LLM) or CPA license is highly desirable.

Minimum 3+ years of progressive experience in U.S. individual and private client tax, with proven experience preparing and reviewing 1040 returns for high net worth individuals.

Demonstrated experience advising HNWI and UHNWI clients and familiarity with Private Client practice lines.

Strong technical knowledge of U.S. individual, gift, estate, partnership, and international tax rules and practical application to planning.

Experience managing or mentoring teams and overseeing workflow and quality control in a tax practice.

Excellent client-facing and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax matters to clients and stakeholders.

Comfortable coordinating across multi-disciplinary teams and with outside advisors to deliver coordinated solutions.

Proficiency with tax software and common office technology; experience with PCs (professional corporations/personal corporations) and related tax filings a plus.

Required skills: demonstrated expertise in HNWI matters, 1040 preparation and U.S. Tax practice.
Nice to have:
prior Tax Manager experience, exposure to UHNWI/private client work, JD or LLM degree, CPA credential, and experience serving High Net Worth clientele.
