We're hiring an Engineering Manager to lead the Tax Engineering team within the Consumer Product Group. Tax Engineering sits at the intersection of every trade, every payment, and every product Coinbase ships on the hot path. When a user buys Bitcoin, sells an equity, earns staking rewards, or redeems an Advisor-managed strategy, our systems calculate cost basis, track gain/loss, determine withholding obligations, and produce the reporting that keeps Coinbase compliant across every product line and legal entity globally. As EM, you'll lead a 12-person team (IC4-IC6) building the primitives that make every new product launch possible from 1099 reporting infrastructure to automated withholding and clearing integrations with our partner Apex. Scale and accuracy are both non-negotiable. If you want to work on systems that are technically demanding, financially consequential, and impossible to ignore, this is the team. Ownership & impact In this role, you will: Own the technical roadmap for Tax Engineering, driving the architecture and execution for cost basis tracking, gain/loss calculation, withholding automation, and reporting infrastructure that powers Coinbase's tax compliance at scale. Lead and grow a high-performing team of 12 engineers (IC4-IC6), coaching them to deliver impact while supporting their career development and fostering a culture of technical excellence and operational rigor. Build the tax primitives for new products as Coinbase expands into equities, margin, options, and beyond - ensuring our architecture is extensible by design and every product launch has the tax infrastructure it needs from day one. Partner cross-functionally with Product, Design, and trading teams (Equities, Futures, Spot Crypto, DEX, Prediction Markets) to translate complex tax and regulatory requirements into scalable technical solutions. Drive delivery of mission-critical systems including 1099-B and 1099-DA broker reporting pipelines, automated withholding deduction, and clearing integrations with Apex - systems where accuracy and reliability are non-negotiable.
