Job Description
Tax ManagerPosition OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead tax compliance, planning, and review for a portfolio of individual and business clients. The Tax Manager will oversee preparation and review of Individual, Partnership, S-Corp, and C-Corp returns, coordinate with internal teams and external advisors, and deliver timely, accurate tax services while identifying opportunities to minimize client tax liability. This role requires proven experience as a Tax Manager and strong technical knowledge of federal and state tax laws; EA or CPA credentials are a strong plus.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead and manage the tax function for a portfolio of clients, including Individual, Partnership, S-Corp, and C-Corp returns.
Prepare, review, and sign off on complex tax returns and schedules; ensure accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
Provide technical tax research and recommendations on planning opportunities, credits, deductions, and tax accounting methods.
Oversee and mentor tax staff: assign work, review deliverables, provide feedback, and support professional development.
Manage client relationships: act as primary contact for tax technical issues, tax planning discussions, and year-round client inquiries.
Coordinate and respond to tax notices, audits, and inquiries from tax authorities; work with clients and external counsel as needed.
Implement and maintain internal quality control and review procedures to ensure accurate, high-quality work products.
Collaborate with other service lines (assurance, advisory, payroll) to deliver integrated client solutions and identify cross-selling opportunities.
Monitor tax filing deadlines and workflow to ensure timely submission and efficient resource allocation.
Stay current on changes in tax law, regulations, and professional standards and communicate impacts to clients and team members.
QualificationsMinimum 5+ years of progressive tax experience with demonstrated time as a Tax Manager or equivalent leadership role (required).Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Masters in Tax or Accounting is a plus.
Licensed EA (Enrolled Agent) or CPA (Certified Public Accountant) preferred (nice to have).Strong technical experience preparing and reviewing Individual, Partnership, S-Corp, and C-Corp tax returns (nice to have).Proven experience performing reviews of tax returns and supporting documentation (nice to have).Thorough knowledge of federal and state tax laws, tax research tools, and tax software (e.g., Lacerte, ProSystem fx, Drake, UltraTax).Excellent communication and client-facing skills, with ability to explain complex tax concepts clearly.
Demonstrated leadership and staff development skills, including delegation, review, and performance coaching.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple deadlines during peak season.
Ability to handle confidential client information with integrity and professional ethics.
