  • Livonia, MI Tedder Whitlock Consulting is a small, relationship-driven accounting firm serving individuals, families, and small businesses throughout Southeast Michigan.
We're growing and are looking for an experienced Tax Manager to join our team. This role is ideal for someone with strong tax experience who is comfortable reviewing returns, working directly with clients, and helping develop staff. Experience with audit and assurance engagements is a strong plus. What You'll Do Review individual, partnership, S and C corporation, and other tax returns Review supporting workpapers for accuracy, completeness, and proper tax treatment Research tax issues and assist with more complex client matters Manage tax engagements from information gathering through final review and filing Assist with tax planning, projections, estimated payments, extensions, and year-end planning Communicate directly with clients regarding tax questions, planning opportunities, and outstanding items Review and respond to IRS and state tax notices Provide guidance and technical support to associates and other staff Help improve internal tax processes, workpapers, and review procedures Coordinate with partners on complex tax matters and client service Assist with bookkeeping and accounting-related issues when they affect tax reporting Participate in audit, review, or compilation engagements as needed if experienced in assurance What We're Looking For 5+ years of public accounting tax experience, preferably with experience reviewing returns Strong working knowledge of federal and state taxation for individuals and closely held businesses Experience with Forms 1040, 1065, 1120S, and 1120 Ability to identify tax issues beyond basic return preparation and exercise sound professional judgment Strong review skills and attention to detail Ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines during busy season Strong written and verbal communication skills Comfortable working directly with clients and taking ownership of engagements Ability and willingness to mentor and develop less-experienced staff Strong Excel skills and comfort working with accounting and tax software CPA preferred; EA or significant relevant experience will also be considered Audit or assurance experience is a plus Integrity, dependability, and a commitment to high-quality work Why Join Us A small, close-knit team that values honesty, humility, and hard work Hands-on training and mentorship from experienced CPAs Exposure to a variety of clients: high-net-worth individuals, small business owners, and families Room to grow into more advanced tax roles as you gain experience Competitive compensation based on experience A work environment where your character and contribution truly matter Start Date We're looking to hire as soon as possible to prepare for our upcoming tax season.
