Job Description

Tax ManagerPosition Overview The Tax Manager will lead tax compliance, planning, research, and client advisory services for a diverse portfolio including high net worth individuals, trusts and estates, passthrough entities, corporations, nonprofit and professional services clients. This role combines technical tax expertise (compliance and planning) with team leadership, client management, review and quality control, and liaison with legal and accounting teams to minimize tax risk and optimize tax outcomes.

Key ResponsibilitiesLead preparation, review and filing of federal, state and local tax returns including Forms 1040, 1120, 1120S, 1065, 709, 1041 and 706 for individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts and estates.

Provide tax planning and advisory services for high net worth individuals (HNW/HNWI), family offices, fiduciaries and private clients, including gift, estate and trust planning.

Manage and perform complex partnership and passthrough entity tax engagements, including partnership allocations, basis calculations, and K-1 review.

Oversee corporate tax matters for C-corp and S-corp clients, including tax compliance, credits, elections and comparative tax analysis.

Conduct technical tax research and prepare tax memos on complex federal, state and international tax issues; ensure positions are defensible and documented.

Supervise, mentor and develop tax staff and senior tax professionals; delegate and review work, provide feedback, and oversee training programs.

Coordinate and execute tax provisions, tax accounting entries and income tax footnote preparation in collaboration with accounting teams and public accounting reviewers.

Manage client relationships and communications; present tax strategies and results to clients, trustees, executors and board members as needed.

Serve as primary review partner for high-complexity returns and engagements, ensuring quality control, compliance with firm standards, and timely delivery.

Collaborate with legal counsel on JD/LLM-level estate and trust matters, real estate transactions, construction-related tax issues, and business succession planning.

Support tax controversy, audits and examination responses; prepare supporting documentation and represent clients as needed.

Drive process improvements, technology adoption (including Microsoft Office and tax software), and efficiency initiatives across the tax team.

QualificationsBachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; JD or LLM in Taxation is a strong plus.

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) strongly preferred; Enrolled Agent (EA) candidates with extensive experience considered.

Minimum of 6-8 years of progressive tax experience in public accounting or professional services, including hands-on preparation and review of individual, partnership and corporate returns.

Demonstrated experience serving high net worth individuals, trusts, estates, family offices, and fiduciaries.

Extensive knowledge and experience with Forms 1040, 1120, 1120S, 1065, 709, 1041, and 706 and passthrough entity tax rules.

Strong partnership tax skills, including allocations, basis, and K-1 review; experience with S-corp and C-corp tax matters.

Practical experience with tax compliance, tax planning, tax research, and tax accounting in a professional services or public accounting environment.

Track record of supervising and mentoring tax teams as a Tax Manager, Senior Tax Manager or Tax Supervisor.

Excellent communication and client-facing skills; ability to explain complex tax concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and common tax research and compliance software; comfort adopting new technology.

Experience with real estate, construction-related tax issues, nonprofit and professional services clients is highly desirable.

Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
