You will cultivate long-term client relationships with our small business clientele, working with them on personalized tax planning for their specific and sometimes complex situations, while overseeing the outsourced accounting services that keep their books accurate and tax-ready year-round. The Accounting and Tax Manager is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the firm's tax practice and outsourced accounting services, driving strategic growth, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality tax planning, consulting, compliance, and client accounting services. Responsibilities Tax Practice Leadership
- Lead and manage tax engagements from planning through filing
- Provide strategic tax planning for individuals and business clients (S-Corps, Partnerships, Corporations)
- Review tax returns for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
- Oversee an increasing volume of returns and ensure deadlines are met in a high-volume environment
- Coordinate year-end 1099 and W-2 reporting for clients Accounting Services Leadership
- Lead and manage outsourced accounting engagements for small business clients, from setup through ongoing monthly service
- Oversee the month-end close: transaction review, bank, credit card, and loan reconciliations, and adjusting entries
- Review monthly and year-end financial statements (balance sheet, P&L, and cash flow) for outsourced accounting clients
- Oversee client payroll processing, payroll tax filings, and related reporting
- Manage client accounts payable and accounts receivable workflows
- Provide client accounting advisory: cash flow forecasting, budgeting support, and internal control recommendations
- Coordinate the flow of client records between the accounting team and tax team so books are clean and tax-ready Client and Team Leadership
- Serve as the primary point of contact for client relationships
- Hire, train, and develop tax and accounting staff
- Improve workflows, processes, and turnaround times across both service lines
- Collaborate with leadership on firm growth and client service strategy Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting is required
- An EA or CPA license is required
- Minimum of 3 years recent experience working in a public accounting firm
- Significant technical tax experience in high-production volume environments
- Experience preparing and reviewing financial statements and managing month-end close for external clients
- Experience in Corporate, S-Corp, Partnership, and Non-Profit returns
- Experience managing tax planning for high-net-worth individual clients and dynamic growth companies
- Experience overseeing or performing payroll and payroll tax reporting
- QuickBooks Online proficiency (certification a plus)
- Proven success in hiring, training, motivating, and developing staff
- Strong understanding of accounting and tax terminology
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Exceptional telephone and virtual meeting protocol
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Proficient in the Microsoft 365 Professional Suite and Google Workspace
