Job Description
Tax Manager (CPA) - Remote SHR Talent is partnering with a public accounting and tax advisory client in its search for a Tax Manager (CPA). This is a permanent, fully remote opportunity offering a $140,000-$150,000 base salary , with bonus potential to be determined. The Tax Manager will oversee the firm's tax function, lead and develop the tax team, and provide final review of complex individual and business tax returns. The Tax Manager will be responsible for maintaining high standards of technical accuracy, compliance, client service, and operational efficiency across the tax department. This leader will oversee engagements from tax return preparation through final review and delivery while providing technical guidance on complex tax matters and ensuring deadlines and quality standards are consistently met. The ideal candidate is an experienced CPA with 10+ years of public accounting experience and a strong background reviewing complex individual, partnership, S Corporation, C Corporation, and multi-state tax returns. This position requires a hands-on tax leader who can combine deep technical expertise with team leadership, mentorship, process improvement, and exceptional client service.
Responsibilities:
Lead and manage the tax department while overseeing workflow, priorities, deadlines, quality standards, and overall execution of client tax engagements Perform final technical review of complex individual and business tax returns, including partnerships, S Corporations, C Corporations, and multi-state filings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable tax laws Lead, mentor, train, and develop tax preparers, reviewers, and other team members while providing technical guidance and maintaining consistent firm-wide standards Review tax strategies and provide guidance on complex federal and state tax matters while helping clients navigate compliance requirements and tax planning opportunities Manage multiple client engagements and competing deadlines while ensuring timely, accurate, and high-quality deliverables Partner with firm leadership to improve tax workflows, systems, processes, quality controls, and overall departmental efficiency Identify and resolve complex tax issues while remaining current on changes to federal and state tax laws, regulations, planning strategies, and compliance requirements Support client relationships through proactive communication, technical expertise, responsiveness, and a commitment to delivering a high level of professional serviceQualifications:
Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required 10+ years of progressive public accounting and tax experience required Significant tax return review and management experience within a CPA firm or public accounting environment required Advanced experience with complex individual and business tax returns, including Partnerships, S Corporations, C Corporations, and multi-state filings required Strong knowledge of federal and state taxation, tax compliance, tax planning strategies, and current U.S. tax laws Proven experience leading, mentoring, training, and developing tax professionals while managing department workflow and deadlines Demonstrated ability to perform final-level review of complex tax returns and identify technical, compliance, and planning issues Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex tax matters clearly to clients, colleagues, and firm leadership Ability to independently manage multiple priorities and deadlines within a fast-paced, fully remote professional environment Commitment to continuous learning, professional development, operational excellence, and high-quality client service #IND123Benefits
