I'm working with an independent CPA firm in Fort Wayne with just under 60 people. They're looking for someone with Trust & Estate tax experience, ideally at Manager level, although they'd absolutely consider a strong Senior Associate who wants to keep developing in this area. This isn't a move where you have to sacrifice the quality of work for a smaller firm environment. You'll work with trusts, estates, high net worth individuals and family groups, alongside closely held businesses that often span multiple generations. There's plenty of direct client exposure and, as you become more senior, the opportunity to take real ownership of those relationships. The firm is independent, so decisions are made locally and Partners are accessible. They've got very low turnover, invest heavily in training and development, and there's a genuinely collaborative tax team where people share knowledge rather than guarding it. Outside busy season, hours are around 40 per week, with Flex Fridays from immediately after April 15th. They're also investing heavily in technology, AI and automation, with no offshore team. You don't need to be a CPA to be considered. They have Managers who are EAs and non qualified, although you would need your CPA if Partnership is where you eventually want to go. It's probably most interesting if you're fairly happy where you are, but wouldn't mind doing similar quality work somewhere smaller where you can have a bit more influence. If you're just browsing the job boards and you haven't dusted off your resume yet, that's not a problem. You can give me a call first on 312-564-5028. If you prefer, you could drop me a connection or message on LinkedIn (Lucy Weibel at Distinct), and we can pick things up there. If you've read this advert and you're unsure whether to apply because you don't have every bit of experience listed, I'd still encourage you to apply. We support the CPA firms we partner with in building diverse, inclusive and equitable workplaces, and the right attitude often goes further than ticking every box. If this position isn't quite right, it's highly likely I'll be working on another Public Accounting opportunity that is.
