Job Description
Tax ManagerPosition OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead and grow our tax practice within a respected Top Workplace. The Tax Manager will oversee federal, state, and local tax compliance and planning for a diverse portfolio of clients, provide technical tax advice, and mentor a high-performing team. This role blends hands-on tax work with client relationship management and staff development in a collaborative, employee-focused environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesManage preparation and review of complex federal, state, and local income tax returns for corporations, partnerships, S corporations, and individuals.
Develop and implement tax planning strategies to minimize client tax liabilities and identify opportunities for tax savings.
Supervise, mentor, and train tax staff; delegate work assignments and provide performance feedback to build a strong, engaged team.
Serve as the primary client contact on tax matters, cultivating strong relationships and ensuring excellence in client service.
Coordinate and oversee tax provision calculations and related reconciliations for clients as needed.
Ensure compliance with all filing deadlines and regulatory requirements, staying current with tax law changes and communicating impacts to clients and staff.
Perform quality control reviews and approve workpapers; develop and improve internal processes and workflows to increase efficiency.
Collaborate with other practice areas (audit, consulting, wealth) to deliver integrated client solutions and identify cross-selling opportunities.
Represent clients in tax authority examinations and assist with tax controversy matters when necessary.
Participate in business development activities including proposal preparation, client presentations, and thought leadership initiatives.
QualificationsBachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Masters degree or M.S.T. preferred.
Active CPA license required or CPA eligible; strong preference for candidates with public accounting experience.
Minimum of 5+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting, including experience managing teams and client relationships.
Deep technical knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and experience with tax planning and compliance for partnerships, corporations, S corporations, and high-net-worth individuals.
Proven supervisory and mentoring skills with experience leading and developing staff in a collaborative environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex tax issues to clients and team members.
Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines simultaneously.
Proficiency with tax research tools and tax software (e.g., CCH Axcess, UltraTax, ProSystem fx, or similar); advanced Excel skills.
High ethical standards, attention to detail, and commitment to delivering exceptional client service.
Willingness to participate in firm initiatives, professional development, and community engagement activities.
