Tax Supervisor Distinct Recruitment - 4.5 San Antonio, TX Job Details Full-time $90,000 - $100,000 a year 4 hours ago Benefits Profit sharing Health insurance Dental insurance 401(k) Paid time off Work from home Parental leave Vision insurance 401(k) matching Opportunities for advancement Flexible schedule Life insurance Retirement plan Paid sick time Qualifications Customer communication Public accounting Client relationship development All consultants (tax preparation) Accounting firm experience Full Job Description Tax Supervisor | $90k - $100k | San Antonio | Hybrid 3 Years' Public Accounting Experience Required This is one of those firms that's quietly built something quite unusual over the last 25+ years, not by trying to scale aggressively, but by doing the opposite: staying focused on a very specific client base and becoming genuinely good at serving it. They work primarily with real estate investors, realtors, and small business owners, and the interesting part isn't just the niche, it's the retention. Most clients stay long term, and demand is strong enough that the firm actually turns away work, with close to 1,000 new enquiries coming in each year. That changes the dynamic internally. You're not in a business chasing revenue at any cost. You're in one that's already well-positioned, and therefore able to be selective about how it grows. A big part of that comes down to the way the owner thinks and that thinking filters directly into how roles are structured. As a Tax Lead, you're not tucked away in the background churning through returns. You're client-facing, involved in the real conversation: what's happening, what's possible, and how to structure things in a way that actually improves outcomes. So yes, there's tax prep and review involved, but it sits alongside advisory work and ongoing client strategy discussions. It's a broader, more engaged role than a traditional production-focused position. And if that feels like a step away from what you're doing now, the firm is aware of that. There's a proper training structure in place covering both technical development and client communication, so you're not expected to arrive fully formed in every area from day one. The career path is also more flexible than rigid. There's progression from Tax Manager into a broader "general area manager" style role, but it's intentionally less prescriptive, progression is largely shaped by capability and ambition rather than fixed timelines. A few practical points that define the environment: Established 25+ year firm focused on real estate investors, realtors, and SMEs Strong inbound demand (1,000+ new enquiries annually), with selective client intake Education-first client approach that reduces pressure on sales-driven behaviour Tax Lead role combining prep, review, and client-facing advisory work Structured training programme covering both technical and communication development Busy season typically 45-50 hours per week Any hours above 45 returned as PTO Generous PTO allowance plus sick time and additional federal holiday days Healthcare plan, 401(k), and competitive bonus structure Flexible, ambition-led progression pathway rather than rigid title ladders The trade-off here is fairly clear: this isn't a high-pressure, scale-driven environment. It's a stable, well-positioned firm where the emphasis is on depth of client relationships and quality of work rather than volume or constant expansion. If you want a role where you're actually talking to clients, influencing outcomes, and working in a firm that isn't constantly firefighting growth pressures, it's worth a closer look. Resume not ready? Unsure whether a move is right, right now? That's completely normal. Career decisions take time. Call Laura on 512-647-2214. She'll share insight recruiters rarely do, what the role really involves, how the firm operates behind the scenes, and whether it genuinely supports your long-term ambitions. No pressure. Just clarity before you decide.
