Job Description

Tax PreparerPosition OverviewWe are seeking a detail-oriented Tax Preparer to prepare and review individual and business tax returns, ensure compliance with federal and state tax codes, and deliver accurate, timely service to clients. The role supports public accounting engagements and helps clients minimize tax liabilities through accurate computation and practical tax planning. Candidates must have strong tax preparation experience and familiarity with public accounting practices.

Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare and review federal and state individual (Form 1040) and business tax returns, including S-Corp, C-Corp, partnership, and trust returns where applicable.

Apply public accounting standards and firm procedures to ensure accurate, compliant tax filings and documentation.

Gather, analyze, and verify client financial information and supporting documentation; prepare workpapers and maintain organized client files.

Identify tax planning opportunities and communicate recommendations to clients or supervising accountants.

Electronically file tax returns and manage deadlines to ensure timely submissions and payments.

Respond to client inquiries, explain tax positions clearly, and provide excellent client service.

Support tax provision calculations, amended returns, and responses to notices or audits as needed.

Stay current on federal, state, and local tax law changes and implement updates in tax preparation processes.

Collaborate with colleagues and senior accountants on complex returns and special projects, and assist with training junior staff when required.

Maintain strict confidentiality of client information and adhere to firm quality control and ethical standards.
QualificationsRequired:
Demonstrated experience in Tax Preparation and experience working in Public Accounting (public firm or equivalent client-facing tax practice).
Education:
Associate or Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience. CPA candidate, Enrolled Agent, or active CPA is a plus.

Technical skills: Proficiency with tax preparation software, electronic filing systems, and Microsoft Excel; comfortable with client accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks) is preferred.

Experience with S-Corp, C-Corp, Partnership, and Trust tax returns is a strong plus.

Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple client engagements and deadlines.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a client-service orientation.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards.
