Wilton, CT – onsite
Compensation:
$30–$40/hour, commensurate with experience Position Overview Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Accountant / Tax Preparer to join a growing accounting practice in Wilton, CT. This position will be responsible for a combination of accounting, financial statement preparation, account reconciliations, financial analysis, and tax preparation. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working directly with financial information and clients while gaining broad exposure across accounting and taxation. Candidates with public accounting experience are preferred; however, recent accounting graduates with a strong technical foundation will also be considered. Potential end of year bonus No overtime or crunch time during tax season Strong employee retention Owner encourages employee interaction Key Responsibilities Prepare financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements in accordance with GAAP. Perform general ledger accounting and maintain accurate financial records. Complete bank, balance sheet, and other account reconciliations. Review financial information for accuracy and investigate discrepancies. Analyze financial data and identify trends to support budgeting and management decision-making. Prepare and review individual income tax returns. Prepare and review corporate, partnership, and estate tax returns. Maintain current knowledge of applicable tax laws, regulations, and accounting standards. Ensure accurate and timely tax filings and financial reporting. Assist clients with accounting and tax-related questions. Maintain organized supporting documentation and client records. Manage multiple client engagements and deadlines simultaneously. Provide additional accounting and tax support as needed. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred. Public accounting and/or tax preparation experience preferred; recent graduates will also be considered. Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals, including debits and credits, double-entry bookkeeping, general ledger accounting, and financial statements. Knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles. Experience preparing individual and/or business tax returns is highly preferred. Familiarity with QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or similar accounting software. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
