Job Description
Multiple Accounting & Tax Positions JDM Tax & Accounting is a local Northern Michigan accounting firm serving individuals and small businesses throughout the region. We're growing and looking for talented people to join our team, from seasonal tax preparation to full-time accounting and tax positions . We take our work seriously without making everything overly corporate. Current OpportunitiesSeasonal Tax Preparer Seasonal | Potential for Full-Time Employment $20-$32 per hour, based on experience We're looking for a tax preparer with prior experience to join us for the upcoming tax season. For the right person, the opportunity could grow into continued or full-time employment. What you'll do: Prepare individual income tax returns Prepare or assist with small-business returns based on experience Review tax documents for completeness and accuracy Communicate with clients about questions and missing information Research and resolve tax preparation issues Work with our accounting team on more complex returns Prior tax preparation experience is strongly preferred. Experience with Intuit ProSeries or in a public-accounting or professional tax-preparation environment is a definite plus. We're looking for someone who knows the fundamentals, is comfortable working with clients and technology, and can get up to speed quickly. Staff Accountant / Tax Professional Full-Time | Year-Round $52,000-$68,000 annually, based on experience We're looking for an accounting professional with two or more years of practical accounting, bookkeeping, tax, or public-accounting experience . We're more interested in what you can do than simply counting years on a résumé. This position is for someone with a solid accounting foundation who is comfortable working with small-business clients, digging into the numbers, and figuring out why something doesn't look right. What you'll do: Manage and review accounting records for small-business clients Work independently in QuickBooks Online Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and year-end adjustments Review general ledger activity and resolve accounting issues Prepare and review financial statements Work directly with clients on accounting and bookkeeping questions Prepare individual income tax returns Prepare or assist with corporate, partnership, and other business tax returns Work with our team on more complex accounting and tax matters Prior accounting experience is required. Individual and business tax preparation experience is strongly preferred, but we're also interested in strong accounting professionals who are ready to expand their tax knowledge. If corporate and business tax preparation isn't already in your wheelhouse, you'll need to be willing to learn it. Developing those skills will be an important part of growing in this position. What We're Looking For Depending on the position, valuable experience and skills include: Accounting, bookkeeping, tax preparation, or public-accounting experience Individual and business tax return preparation Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks Online Experience with Intuit ProSeries , QuickBooks Desktop, and Microsoft Excel Understanding of journal entries, reconciliations, general ledgers, and financial statements Experience working directly with small-business clients Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field Comfort with technology and learning new software and digital workflows A degree is preferred for certain positions but isn't necessarily a substitute for good practical experience—and meaningful experience may be just as valuable.
