Job Description

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW
The Synod of Lincoln Trails, part of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), supports and strengthens churches and their local leadership networks across Indiana and Illinois. It connects more than 500 congregations and 56,000 people engaged in worship, service, and community life, helping communities share resources, deepen leadership, and respond more effectively to the needs around them. At its heart, the Synod exists to shape the future of the church—equipping leaders, strengthening congregations, and creating new ways for communities to work together. It builds the connections and momentum needed for ministry to grow, adapt, and reach beyond what any one church could do alone. In this season, that work is taking new shape. The Synod is developing initiatives like the A Living Logos (A.L.L.) Center—an emerging effort focused on innovative leadership development and expanded pathways for multi-vocational ministry—creating space for the church to adapt, lead, and serve in a rapidly changing world. To support this next chapter, the Synod is seeking a part-time Lead Storyteller—a newly established position. This leader will translate vision, goals, and data into compelling narratives that demonstrate the impact of the Synod's mission-drive work and inspire engagement.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Lead Storyteller will lead the Synod's storytelling, communications, digital engagement, and connection-building strategies to foster hope, collaboration, and participation across the Synod. This role is central to the Synod's cultural and relational strategy. This position is well-suited for an experienced communications professional seeking to bring their expertise into a mission-driven environment with meaningful scope, relational leadership, and a sustainable pace. Candidates with a marketing and strategic communication background in corporate, philanthropic, nonprofit, or ministry settings will find opportunities to apply their experience in new and impactful ways.
WORK LOCATION AND SCHEDULE
This is a part-time (20 hours per week) position. The Synod welcomes candidates from across Indiana and Illinois. Because this role is centered on listening for, capturing, and sharing stories of ministry, the successful candidate will spend time both remotely and in the field, building relationships with congregations, pastors, and ministry leaders. Some travel throughout the region and periodic time in the Indianapolis office will be expected.
