Job Description
Position Overview A small growing manufacturing organization is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead accounting and financial operations while serving as a key business partner to executive leadership. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, this role is responsible for overseeing all accounting functions, financial reporting, cash management, payroll administration, and internal controls. Unlike larger corporate environments, this position requires an individual who is comfortable operating at both a strategic and tactical level, with direct involvement in day-to-day accounting activities while providing financial insight to support business decisions. Key Responsibilities Financial Leadership & Reporting Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes. Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and related management reports. Develop financial metrics and reporting tools to support operational and strategic decision-making. Provide financial analysis, variance reporting, and recommendations to leadership. Accounting Operations Oversee all general ledger activities and maintain accuracy of financial records. Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies. Establish, monitor, and strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures. Maintain and optimize ERP system processes and reporting capabilities. Cash Management Manage daily cash flow activities and liquidity planning. Monitor banking relationships and treasury functions. Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes. Perform and review cash and bank reconciliations. Cost & Business Analysis Monitor cost performance and analyze operational variances. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial analyses. Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives. Partner with operational leaders to identify opportunities for efficiency and profitability improvements. Payroll & Benefits Administration Oversee payroll activities through a third-party payroll provider. Review payroll data for accuracy and compliance. Manage employee deductions, tax withholdings, and direct deposit administration. Serve as an internal resource for payroll and benefits-related inquiries. Assist with employee benefits administration and related reporting requirements. Team Leadership & Compliance Lead and develop accounting staff responsible for accounts payable and accounts receivable functions. Foster collaboration across departments to ensure financial accuracy and operational effectiveness. Coordinate annual audits and serve as a primary contact for external auditors. Support special projects and executive reporting as needed. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field required. Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting, finance, or public accounting experience. Prior experience leading accounting functions in a manufacturing, industrial, or operational environment preferred. Experience managing month-end close, financial reporting, payroll, and cash management activities. ERP system experience strongly preferred. Technical Skills Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to analyze and interpret complex financial data. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Experience with integrated ERP systems preferred. Leadership Competencies Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate financial information for non-financial stakeholders. Demonstrated leadership and team management experience. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. High degree of integrity, professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical judgment. Collaborative approach with the ability to build strong relationships across all levels of the organization.
