Job Description

Robert Half's client in the higher education sector is seeking an experienced Controller/ Consultant to oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting support, internal controls, and compliance. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership experience, a background in higher education finance, and hands-on expertise with Sage Intacct. ( ideal). This interim Controller opportunity will be located onsite in Fullerton, CA.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, month-end, and year-end close Prepare and review financial statements and management reports Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting policies Manage budgeting, forecasting, and audit support Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, grant reporting, and institutional financial policies Supervise accounting staff and support process improvements Demonstrated experience serving in a Controller or senior accounting leadership capacity. Background in higher education, non-profit, or similarly regulated financial environments. Strong command of month-end close activities and monthly financial reporting processes. Experience preparing and reviewing monthly financial statements, cash flow statements, and balance sheet reconciliations or reviews. Knowledge of internal controls, compliance standards, and audit support responsibilities. Proven ability to manage budgeting and forecasting activities with a high degree of accuracy. Leadership experience supervising accounting staff and improving finance department operations.
