full-time Conexus is partnering with a public real estate organization that is seeking a strategic and operationally minded accounting leader to partner closely with the Chief Accounting Officer in overseeing and strengthening our client's Accounting function. The Vice President will be responsible for overseeing key accounting activities, resolving complex issues, improving the close and reporting processes, and ensuring the function effectively supports the broader business.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Accounting Leadership & Oversight Partner with the Chief Accounting Officer in overseeing the Accounting function and ensuring high-quality execution across key accounting and financial reporting activities. Provide leadership and direction to accounting teams, helping establish priorities, resolve issues, and maintain consistent execution. Serve as a senior accounting resource and advisor on complex and material accounting matters, including lease revenue recognition, joint ventures, development activities, fixed assets, and other real estate-related transactions. Support the Chief Accounting Officer in evaluating accounting policies, processes, and organizational priorities. Promote strong accounting judgment, consistency, accountability, and adherence to company policies and applicable accounting standards. Close, Reporting & Operational Excellence Help drive an efficient, accurate, and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual close process. Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes, eliminate manual activities, and improve the quality and timeliness of financial reporting. Establish and monitor operational metrics that provide visibility into the performance of the Accounting function. Work with accounting leaders to identify recurring issues and implement sustainable solutions. Continuously evaluate processes and workflows to improve efficiency without compromising accuracy or controls. Cross-Functional Business Partnership Partner with Finance, Information Technology, Operations, Property Management, Internal Audit, Leasing, Legal, Construction, and Development to resolve issues and improve business processes. Represent Accounting in cross-functional initiatives and ensure accounting requirements are appropriately incorporated into business processes and systems. Develop strong relationships across the organization to improve communication, accountability, and coordination between Accounting and operating teams. Systems, Data & Process Improvement Oversee the effective use of accounting systems and technology, including Yardi and related financial applications. Identify and implement practical improvements in automation, reporting, analytics, and workflow management. Partner with IT and business stakeholders to improve system functionality, data quality, integration, and user experience. Develop reporting and analytics capabilities that provide Accounting and business leaders with greater visibility into financial and operational performance. Evaluate emerging technologies, including AI and RPA, where they can improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability. Governance, Controls & Data Integrity Partner with the Chief Accounting Officer and Internal Audit to strengthen accounting processes, financial systems governance, and internal controls. Establish clear ownership and accountability for key financial and operational data. Ensure Accounting remains a reliable source of truth for financial information. Identify control gaps and operational risks and work with stakeholders to implement effective solutions. Team Development & Capability Building Develop and strengthen the capabilities of the Accounting organization through coaching, training, process documentation, and improved tools. Promote a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, accountability, and operational excellence. Help identify organizational needs and opportunities to improve team structure, responsibilities, and resource allocation. Encourage adoption of technology and more efficient ways of working across the Accounting function. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; MBA or other advanced degree preferred. CPA license required. Big Four public accounting experience required, with a strong foundation in audit, technical accounting, and financial reporting. 12+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience , including significant experience in a leadership role within a public company. Deep understanding of U.S. GAAP and demonstrated ability to evaluate and resolve complex accounting matters. Experience with public-company reporting requirements, including SEC filings, internal controls over financial reporting, and coordination with external auditors.
