Position Overview Highpointe Communities is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to oversee the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of the organization. This is a stand-alone position, and the hired candidate will assume roles and responsibilities of the Company's current long-tenured Controller as part of a planned succession. The ideal candidate will be a self-sufficient accounting professional who can step into the role with minimal supervision, maintain accurate financial records, manage account payables, payroll, and reporting processes, and serve as a trusted resource to ownership and the broader team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional seeking a stable, long-term position with a highly respected real estate organization. Key Responsibilities Maintain general ledger and accounting records for the operating company and multiple real estate holding entities. Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes. Process payroll and oversee payroll-related reporting and compliance. Coordinate accounts payable, cash management, bank reconciliations, and routine accounting activities. Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules for management review. Work closely with external tax advisors and auditors to provide documentation and support for tax filings and annual reporting requirements. Track project-related expenditures and maintain accurate accounting records for real estate development activities. Assist ownership with financial analysis, budgeting, cash flow monitoring, and ad hoc reporting requests. Ensure compliance with accounting policies, internal controls, corporate matters and regulatory requirements. Support the transition and knowledge transfer process from the retiring Controller. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 7+ years of progressive accounting experience. Prior experience as an Assistant Controller, Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar senior accounting role. Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, payroll, and month-end close processes. Ability to operate independently and manage the full accounting cycle in a small-company environment. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and follow-through. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Preferred Qualifications Real estate, land development, property, family office, or real estate investment experience. Exposure to partnership accounting and real estate tax concepts. Familiarity with tax structures and accounting strategies related to real estate investment. Experience with Sage Timberline / Sage 300 Construction & Real Estate or similar accounting systems. CPA designation or public accounting experience is a plus.
