Job Description
Description We are looking for an experienced Controller to oversee the full accounting and finance function for a growing organization in Ontario, California. This position is ideal for a hands-on leader who can balance strategic financial oversight with day-to-day operational accounting while supporting a small team. The Controller will partner closely with company leadership, maintain strong compliance practices, and help ensure accurate reporting, planning, and financial controls across the business.
Responsibilities:
- Direct the company's accounting and finance activities, ensuring accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and dependable financial operations.
- Manage core accounting processes including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger activity, and period-end close procedures.
- Prepare timely financial statements and deliver analysis that supports business decisions, performance tracking, and operational planning.
- Lead budgeting and forecasting efforts, monitoring results against plan and identifying trends or variances that require attention.
- Oversee bank and account reconciliations, fixed asset records, depreciation schedules, and financial documentation integrity.
- Supervise a small accounting support team, providing guidance to staff responsible for payables, receivables, payroll, and related administrative functions.
- Coordinate regulatory and financial compliance matters, including county and state reporting obligations, rate-related documentation, and external review support.
- Collaborate with outside tax and financial service providers to supply records, resolve questions, and support annual reporting needs.
- Contribute to finance-related system improvements, including support for future billing software implementation and process enhancements. Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
- At least 7 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including leadership responsibility and ownership of full-cycle financial operations.
- Strong background in financial statement preparation, month-end close, general ledger management, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a hands-on role within a small or mid-sized business environment.
- Proficiency with accounting systems and intermediate Microsoft Excel skills; experience with software implementation is beneficial.
- Knowledge of account reconciliations, fixed assets, depreciation, and financial analysis best practices.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with ownership, internal staff, and external advisors.
- Industry experience in manufacturing, transportation, distribution, or a related sector is preferred but not required.
