Job Description

Overview (Direct Hire) We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Controller for our busy client in Santa Cruz! This permanent, onsite role will lead our financial operations and ensure compliance with industry standards. This executive role requires a deep understanding of complex financial concepts, regulatory frameworks, and accounting principles such as GAAP, IFRS, IAS, and ASC 606. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership capabilities, strategic planning expertise, and extensive experience in financial management across diverse sectors including corporate, non-profit, and governmental accounting. This position offers an opportunity to influence organizational growth through effective financial analysis, risk management, and fiscal stewardship. Responsibilities Oversee all aspects of financial management including budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning to support organizational objectives. Lead the preparation of financial statements, reports, and analysis to inform executive decision-making. Ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements and accounting standards such as GAAP, IFRS, IAS, and ASC 606. Manage treasury functions including cash flow analysis, investment management, accounts payable/receivable, and bank reconciliations. Conduct risk analysis and implement risk management strategies to safeguard organizational assets. Supervise general ledger accounting, cost accounting, profit & loss statements, balance sheet reconciliation, and account analysis. Develop and maintain internal controls to ensure accuracy of financial data and adherence to regulatory policies. Lead audits and coordinate with external auditors for public accounting requirements. Drive business development initiatives through strategic financial insights and investment management. Oversee compliance management related to governmental accounting standards and other regulatory frameworks. Manage financial software systems for efficient bookkeeping, reporting, and data analysis. Provide leadership in cost control initiatives and revenue management strategies to optimize profitability. Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic planning initiatives that align with organizational goals. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; Extensive experience (4+ years). Deep knowledge of GAAP standards along with technical accounting expertise including accrual accounting and revenue recognition. Strong understanding of financial concepts such as risk analysis, cost management, investment management, cash flow analysis, and budget forecasting. Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage teams effectively across multiple departments. Proficiency in advanced financial software systems and general ledger reconciliation tools. Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data into actionable insights. Experience in regulatory reporting requirements for governmental agencies or non-profit organizations is highly desirable. Strong communication skills for preparing comprehensive financial reports and presenting findings to stakeholders.
